Mark Waugh was a better batsmen than the Clarke,Hayden's,Hussey's etc etc despite what the averages say.

Beside probably brian lara, mark waugh was my favourite batsman to watch when he was on song. Still remember that 6 he put on the roof at the waca of vettori, barely seemed to hit it hard.

Back in the day you had 3 choices, play Test Cricket for Australia, play Sheffield Shield or get a job, nowadays you can get dropped from the Aussie Test side and still earn even more playing playing 20/20 around the world, guys like S Marsh would still be millionaires despite being hopeless, quite sure he won't care if he doesn't play for Australia again.

He was a pretty batsman but no he wasn't better. He was incredibly brainless, flighty and was never too keen to build an innings.

Mark Waugh was a much better batsmen than Hussey and Hayden

Mark Waugh's 50 average in England > Hussey and Hayden low 30's disgrace
Mark Waugh's 50 average in Pakistan against Akram,Younis,Saqlian,Mustaq,Aktar > Anything Hayden and Hussey did overseas
Mark Waugh's 44 average in South Africa > Hussey and Hayden low 30's disgrace
Mark Waugh's 40 average in the Windies against Ambrose and Walsh > Anything Hayden and Hussey did overseas

M Hussey the usual overrated modern day player who couldn't bat away from home and would have been even worse had he faced who M Waugh was up against.

Thanks for helping us lose Ashes series in England Mr Hayden and Mr Hussey due to your inability to play swing bowling you home track bullies.

Well I hope he goes and earns plenty playing, BBL, IPL, The Caribeen one.

Just a couple of seasons of each.. then coach or commentator.

Good luck Clarke, a great servant for Australia.

And just remember when you're comparing averages, Mark Waugh and co batted with toothpick bats (compared to what's out there now) with less or no rope to make boundaries easier. They had to hit it further with a smaller weapon in their hands.

Mark Waugh's 41 average would have been at least 51 in this era.

I think Burns is pretty well odds on to replace Voges for the two tests in Bangladesh after the Ashes.

Maybe a roughy like Bancroft or Stoinis could come in too.

Stoinis should be selected simply for his surname. Sounds like a yiddish word.

England have had a much better fast bowling unit since 05. So you can't compare. It would be like saying an English opener pre Atherton was better against Australia without taking into account Atherton had to face McGrath.

Obviously you love Mark Waugh but a middle order batsman should be cashing in more often. He has nearly as many 50s as Ponting from less games but half the centuries.

Plenty of batsmen used large bats. Clive Lloyd used a 3lb bat. It's the fact that modern bats are so large and light. So there is no longer the trade off between size and speed. Also they aren't designed to really last now. Cricketers can just chuck out a bat every innings.

That said Ex cricketers have been whinging about cricket bats forever. There are verses in the bible where Noah complains about bats being too big these days.

Pissweak time to announce it. Should have waited till after the next game but he had to do it in typical Clarke style and make it all about him.

That's what really stands out about it for me too - did it at the World Cup too. He's just a publicity s**t that loves the limelight, when it's not on him, he tries to change it

The praise is coming thick and fast, but I've never really liked Clarke. The way he ended Simon Katich's career was nothing shy of disgusting.

This.
As well as him being the reason O'Keefe has never got a look in.

He doesn't have good enough leadership qualities.
