Him wanting to play fullback mat Penrith was about him getting as much as he could for his next contract deal.

This is that deal.

So I would bet he is happy to play wherever he fits in best.

Phil Gould reveals Michael Gordon is to leave Penrith Panthers after signing with Cronulla Sharks on three-year deal

INJURED Penrith back and former NSW Origin star Michael Gordon will leave the Panthers at the end of the year to join the Sharks.

Gordon, who is currently on the sidelines with a broken leg sustained in round one, has signed a three year deal with the Shire club.

Gordon created controversy in the pre-season when he expressed his desire to play fullback for the Panthers, only to be relegated to the wing despite some brilliant trial performances.

Interestingly, Panthers General Manager Phil Gould made the announcement this afternoon rather than new club the Sharks - reminiscent of South Sydney owner Russell Crowe trumpeting Chris Sandow’s departure to Parramatta last year.

“It’s sad to lose a player of Michael’s calibre, and such a wonderful person,” Gould said in a statement.

“I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone involved with our club, and our fans, in wishing Michael and his family well in the next three seasons at the Sharks. In the meantime, we look forward to Michael recovering from his current injury, and playing more football with the Panthers during the 2012 season.”The Daily Telegraph understands Gordon was shopped around to rival clubs as a fullback, not a winger.
"We believe Michael can be in the top group of fullbacks and we certainly won't be discussing him as a winger for his next contract," manager Andrew Purcell said in February.

"And he will be going on the open market as a fullback if things don't work out.

"We tried to do his last deal as a fullback, but he hadn't played a game there at that point and people hadn't seen what he could do."
Maybe the Snowy saga scared us out of making our own announcements...

Gould being Gould. Wanting all the headlines for himself.

Watch him make a play for Wade.

Wade would be stupid to leave IMO. He's still only 21 so can do another contract at Cronulla and then go home.

Amazing how quick things can change and fall in place.

Your year reminds me almost to a day of our 2009. We were unfancied with a squad of underachievers and journey men, but we had an excellent forward pack, underrated backs, were tough and hard and our five eighth was playing out of his skin with a solid pro in the 7.

Belief and confidence - intangible but all powerful.

Good signing but surprised it was kept under wraps considering he signed over a week ago

There was a point of having him mid season but that could have fallen away in hindsight of the Jennings situation

Great result - might be time for Best to retire (or go to the wing).

He's served us well but he ain't gunna get any better.
I could be wrong, but I'm sure I heard Best quoted as saying he only signed on as a favor, or something along those lines.

SOO player.
Goalkicker
3 year signing and Sharpie would be after stability so won't shuffle him around from wing to FB to centre.

Part of him agreeing would be he wears the 1.

Gards will be allowed to leave. Wish him well.

Tits I reckon.
