Thorman deserves the first grade spot ahead of Witt.

Care to elaborate as to why or is this based on the fact that he has been picked by Brian Smith as 18th man?

Personally, I can't see how a player from a competition that picked Tulsen Tollett in their Test side is more deserving than a player who has proven himself on more than one occassion to be more than capable of playing first grade....

Ive watched PL for the last 3 weeks, I think they both play alright. Witt is performing well, give him a chance in first grade and he'll prove himself. Why Thorman before Witt though, Witt has played first grade before and Thorman hasnt. I'd say have them in both at the same time.

Well Thorman is a better playmaker and more consistent in both defence and attack. By the way, what happened to Thorman last week? He didn't play at all.

Do you watch premier league. In there is your answer. Thorman has been very impressive Witt has no performed.

I have seen Witt play over the past few weeks and he has played well. He played a great game in the comeback against Manly and turned it around in the second half against the Sharks. I would be leaving Dykes at half and putting him in at 5/8. Thorman is really good out of dummy half and running to the line (which he doesn't do enough) and would be better in the role that Webster was playing.

Sometimes, just giving a guy a chance in the top grade is enough to build their confidence.
Ask Jack Gibson.
How do we know how Thorman will go in the top grade if he isn't thrown to the Lions.
No use nurturing him.
If he is good enough, he'll do alright.
Sterlings first First Grade game was at fullback in a semi-final.

Come on Smithy.....give him a shot at it. And a decent shot......like you have given useless Wagon at 5/8th.

Thorman didnt play cause he was the 18th in first grade.

Dykes is more of a play-making half, which I think he is suited to 5/8. Witt if he keeps it up, looks more of an organising half, which every team needs. We need both Dykes and Witt in the same team for the kicking game, as well as that get good centres.

That's just ridiculous.

Smithy names an 18th EVERY week (god knows why) and most of the time they play, either first or Premier. Unless they are under an injury cloud. To my knowlege, Thorman wasn't.

I, like many of you, would love to see Witt play Grade. I believe he earned it last year.

And I believe Thorman could fill in that valuable playmaker's number 14 jersey.

But it will not happen until:

(a) Brian Smith think he is ready [BTW, I think he is trying to make the conditions similar to last year; imagine if Witt played in all rounds to date and lost every match, and then Wagon moves to 5/8 with Dykes at hlaf and Witt out and we won; no doubt people would criticise him overtly and his confidence would shoot down; by playing him when our backs and forwards are in form and we've had a decent start to the season, there is less pressure on Mick and invariably a player of his undeniable calibre will play better]

(b) one of you becomes head coach.

Volunteers, anyone?

I thought not.

That's just a stupid statement.

Are you saying then, that we cannot comment on decisions by the coaching staff, or our comments are not worthy, because we are not the coaching staff, or are not qualified to be coaching staff?
If you want to be a lacky, you are welcome to volunteer for the position.

What happens if someone pulls a hammy in the warm up and you haven't got an 18th man. Do you go with 16. Try and figure how the system works. If you don't know, please desist from making BLOODY STUPID comments

If your possible scenario is the case, why doesn't EVERY team name a possible 18th man just in case "someone pulls a hammy" in the warm up.
Don't insult our intelligence.

Most teams do - it depends on the coach whether or not they may play half a game of Premier League or just not play at all. Its not always listed though. Most clubs have a player that warms up in case someone goes down injured - like when Eric Grothe Sr went down after tripping over a power cord on the way back to the dressing sheds after warming up one year. There have also been cases where clubs have played a man short due to problems at kick off - Peek was almost replaced the other week after suffering an asthma attack about 30 minutes before the game.

I'd rather see Thorman playing a full game in Premier League than not at all though.... there are better players to be used as the 18th man.

The way Smith uses the interchange bench you definately dont need an 18th man.

Last week Vaeliki didnt play until about 20 mins to go and it was a waste of time putting a jumper on him. In the end, it was very costly. If he isnt fit enough to start, dont play him.

Two weeks before against Souths, two players werent used until the last 10 minutes of the game. Both players wasted their time getting changed that day.

Armit has on most occasions hardly seen any game time. Waste of time getting changed on one or two occasions for him, especially considering that he is not an 'impact' style player!

Thorman should have been in the 17 last week and should get a run this week.

Yeah I agree Chipmunk, Vaeliki shouldntve played last week. He was unfit, he was ruled out of the Kiwi test which meant he wasnt fully fit. Thorman shouldve had a go for sure.

It seems like a waste that:

*Parramatta bought Thorman as a 5/8
*Parramatta let go Steve Witt
*Michael Witt was re-signed for another 3 years

But the problem is Thorman and Michael Witt are in PL, Steve Witt is playing well for Newcastle and Wagon is playing sh*tt at 5/8.

It's a joke really.

Again Wagon is wearing the number six jersey and not playing 5/8. Witt only got the job at 5/8 in Newcastle because Johns is injured - he would not have played first grade in the halves this year otherwise.

Thorman does have to adjust to the NRL before putting him in a starting role and Witt had off season surgey and is now regaining form.
