It's a dead rubber. The club should put its foot down. They must be seething that he was allowed to play on injured and appears to have aggravated it in the second half. Especially when they had Wighton on the bench.

Cleary in doubt for Origin III after suffering shoulder injury in Brisbane

Christian Nicolussi

Nathan Cleary is racing the clock to be fit for Origin III after the halfback injured his right shoulder and played in pain for 70 minutes on Sunday night.

The NSW halfback returned home on Monday with his triumphant Blues teammates before undergoing scans for what medical staff believed was a subluxation, which is a partial dislocation.
Cleary suffered the injury after he made a break in the 10th minute against Queensland, before landing awkwardly as he attempted a pass to James Tedesco.
After having his shoulder strapped at half-time, Cleary was hurt again in the second half when he was taken out by Moeaki Fotuaika after kicking the ball at the end of a set.

He then successfully tackled Daly Cherry-Evans with his left arm but missed Dane Gagai with his right and landed in a painful manner.

Blues officials confirmed Cleary had suffered through most of the game, having refused to leave the field.
Cleary passed on a celebratory beer back at the team hotel in Brisbane as he went into “professional mode” and started icing his shoulder to help manage the pain.

“The one positive is he finished the game, and if you have to bring them from the field, that’s when it’s a real worry,” NSW and Penrith’s head of performance Hayden Knowles said. “He played for the majority of the game with it. He had it looked at at half-time and got it strapped. Even in the middle of the second half we asked him if he wanted to come off and he said, ‘no’.
“An hour after the game I asked him about game three and he said, ‘there’s no way I’m missing it’.
“But the type of pain he was in, the physios suggested he could be looking at anywhere between one and four weeks, which is a big range.
“He was positive about it, but we’ll know more once doctors look at him.”

Cleary is unlikely to play in Penrith’s clash against Parramatta on Friday night. And with the Blues to re-enter camp for game three next Monday, there will be a debate about whether Cleary helps complete the Origin clean sweep, or switches his focus to getting right for the Panthers’ premiership assault

Should Cleary be unfit for the July 14 third Origin game, coach Brad Fittler must decide if he unites Jack Wighton and Jarome Luai in the halves, or opts for another No.7. Mitchell Moses, whose Eels play against Penrith this weekend at BlueBet Stadium, could be one option, while South Sydney’s Cody Walker has done a job in the past, although is better suited to five-eighth.

For Penrith, they have the bonus of uniting Matt Burton with Luai in the halves, an option which would not have happened had the club caved to the Bulldogs’ not-so-subtle push to have Burton join them immediately this season.

Cleary has not had any previous issues with his shoulders, while Tom Trbojevic suffered a similar subluxation at the end of last season, but was able to avoid surgery and clearly had no issues since.

100% agree.

Just look at the Kalyn Ponga situation. Out injured for the Knights. Knights advise QLD that he's injured and not available. QLD pick him anyway. Flog him at training, he reinjures himself, goes back to the Knights worse than when he left. By the time he comes back in Round 18, he's missed the last 9 matches.

Origin pays a maximum of $90k per year. We're paying Cleary 10-11x that. If he were to play Origin 3 and then miss another 3-4 weeks of NRL I would be filthy.

This is bad. Cleary won't come back from injury firing at 100%. It will take time to build up match fitness and form and this will also be a 4-6 week disruption in building combinations.

I think we can kiss the Minor Premiership goodbye. I just hope we can hang onto #2 but to do that we'd have to win at least 1 of the 2 games against the eels and probably the home game against the Rabbitohs as well.

I suppose we are lucky that during this injury we have a bye and 'only' have to play the Warriors and Broncos in addition to this game.

Another thing to consider is that missing 3 further games will be a big blow to Cleary's Dally M chances as well as top points scorer - some people place considerable 'club pride' value on those personal accolades. I admit that I do when our team is not a genuine Premiership threat however ATM I don't give a stuff.

I am also hoping this gives us a chance to Blood Tago. I'd much prefer he plays as a centre.

I'm fuming if he's out for the season because he got injured in Origin and potentially damaged the shoulder further by staying out there. At the end of the day I care about Penrith's success a lot more than the Blues and without Nathan the long wait for a 3rd premiership goes on...

Yeah we'll never have a better chance than this year, roll the dice

What is 4 weeks going to do. Rehab for a month and re-assess if he really can't play

Eels
bye
Warriors
Broncos

So have an easy run in that time before we have the hard run home. also gives Luai/Burton chance to build combinations just incase

Injuries happen in origin but what should not have happened was that he was left out there in a game well won .

We get Cap space if he is gone. What is George Williams up to? I'd go for someone to come in. That adds to the side

Losing our best centre along with the best player in the game is going to hurt. Let's hope Ivan has the balls to play Tago

Edwards is gone again.

Not sure they move Crichton and Burton from centre.

Staines will get his shot back there. Naden to the wing ( Because Jennings is injuried)

Momo is still got a stuffed hip. So Tago is left

Like with always injuries will force Ivan's hand
