We don't lose players for game 2 anyway. It's on the weekend when there are no NRL games. After the Sharks all we have is players backing up after game 3 vs Warriors.

you always have to plan for no one to back up. Only takes a HIA and you are down

How do you stop the try in that situation though? That is the bad luck part. Ball was stripped and hand bounces off that

If you can't stop the try without a high tackle that's tough. It's literally breaking a rule in the act of scoring. You don't get a more blatant call in all the game.

contact was with the ball. Other times the arm doesn't contact the face when it hits the ball. That was the kind of luck

For me, I had hoped this was going to be a night where Kikau really stood up and delivered. With game still in the balance, he coughed the ball up early in the tackle count 10 out from there line and it was all downhill from that point. He really can disappoint our Viliame.

Out of all the forwards he also disappointed me the most. That wasn't his sole poor play - he was crap all night. He has bad brain snaps nearly every game. I honestly won't mind if he ends up chasing a huge contract elsewhere - we can't afford these brain dead plays come finals time.

Regarding the game overall, only Fish can hold his head up high. The rest were somewhere between very average and bad.

It also proves in my mind that this team is going well due to the power of it's stacked roster - not it's coaching or systems.

A depleted Storm and Roosters are still capable of crushing bottom 6 teams and competently taking on any team that isn't top tier.

We are not.

I was clearly wrong about May - I don't want to see him at 7 again and to be honest only at 6 besides a dominant half if injury or suspension occurs. He is simply too large and slow for the position and that coupled with almost zero kicking game means he is no real threat - the defence can simply stand off him.

Crichton - big $$$ small impact. Not sure why he always insists of palming down a single defender from a near standing start when other defenders are there to wrap him up anyway. Just leads to little metres gained and a slow PTB.

Momorovski - a good stand in centre but I honestly don't want him to be anything other than a short term fix.

Kikau - needs to fix his ball security. Is losing the ball regularly 1-2 times a game, along with other problems such as defensive lapses.

Hopgood, Sorensen - both look good off the bench play with our dominant pack. Both ordinary tonight along with L.Smith and Eisenplod. They don't hold a candle to either Liam Martin or Capewell.

Edwards - stop trying to be a play maker - You suck at it. Anyone who thinks he is a top 8 or even top 10 Fullback needs to look at this game.

Burton - looked like our most dangerous player but clearly training and playing in the centres has left his halves skills rusty. His kicking game got more ragged as the game went on. In the last 20 or so - it turned into Diabolical. A night to forget for him. This game would give nightmares to Trent Barrett and Diehard Doggies fans.

Bad luck guys, thought your boys put in but obviously lacked a bit of polish with so many new combos. Very frustrating stop/start game, don’t think anyone enjoyed that aspect of it.

Just a question, what position does that Hopgood play? Saw that lovely video on his debut so was watching him tonight. He was smaller then I thought (also first time I’ve seen him in the flesh but Crichton is fcking massive, I had no idea how big this dude actually was) and kinda just looked to be running around? Not sure where he fits into a team.

Pretty predictable result.

I never believed the hype throughout the week that we were favourites.

8 best players out of starting 17 including 75% of the spine.. very hard to win and the comp is to close for that.

Plenty of negatives which most have mentioned.

Positives were smith and tago. Thought they both tried hard with limited oppurtunities.

Certainly going to be a challenge period around origin.

For mine tmay played himself out of a half spot tonight. Hes just to slow.

We lacked real go forward all night.

If everyone other than api is rested next week id go...

6. Salmon
7. Burton
8. Leota
9. Api
10. Fish
11. Kikau
12. Sorensen
13. Smith

14. Tago/may
15. Leniu
16. Eiso (need his defence when starters are off)
17. Hopgood

Relax. All of these players have been part of a team that won its first 12 games and has played some exhilarating football; including just two weeks ago when they made a game against one of the other top four sides in the competition look like a training run.

It sucks to lose, but it happens to all teams around origin time. And yes the Roosters and the Storm have won games in the past during this period with many out, but this is the first time the club has had to deal with it ever. But despite that it wasn’t a diabolical game; yes we were second best but if the bounce of the ball goes our way a few times in the first 20 mins of the second half we could have got some momentum and pinched it.

Missing that many players usually spells a loss.

Though it did put the blow torch on a couple players. Namely May and Kikau. Neither of them have played well this year.

Yeo and To'o the key players missing imo.

Nobody has ever successfully managed to explain to me why our competition needs to be destroyed each year for state of origin.
The comp turns into a joke for the next few months, weak teams and tired players.
Everyone knows "wins" are tainted and "losses" are considered acceptable.
I can't stand all the "evens the competition up" banter that goes on as well.
Seriously just make the games stand alone and be done with it.
