So can Mikael Akefeldt and Devin Townsend, but round these here parts those names are forbidden...

Both of them are very talented too, though I wouldn't say Mikael's voice is that versatile, I rate his guitar playing over his singing (he sings well though).

Of course it's all subjective, the sheer scope and range of all the projects he undertakes suggest that he's pretty damn talented.

No it doesn't. It suggests he's well connected and busy. Plenty of talentless people are also well connected and busy.

Sure some are hit and miss, but there are very few musicians going around these days that have performed in the range of genres he has. I don't think there are too many musicians that perform for a heavy metal band and an italian orchestra simultaneously. Even if you don't think he's talented, it's pretty hard to disagree that he's one of the most adventurous and experimental musicians of modern times.

Again, that doesn't necessarily make him "talented".

Faith No More and Anthrax were pioneers of the rap-metal genre that saw bands like Rage Against the Machine emerge. Patton's work has been influential in shaping some of the alternative, progressive and metal genres. Even if you don't like what he's done, you may like some of the bands that his work paved the way for.

I doubt it. I don't like any of the bands you've just mentioned -not by a long shot.

I don't enjoy quite alot of music, but I can still recognise a talented musician even if I'm not a fan of what they produce. Wolfmother don't fall into that category.

I doubt you can. Neither can most people. You like what you like and that's that. Everyone's the same. I can espouse the virtues of Bob Dylan until the cows come home but most people think he's some atonal hippy...and I'm fine with that.

Wolfmother are like Jet...they're not great art...they're not creating something particularly original...but they wear their influences on their sleeves, and their influences are pretty good in my opinion...I don't think they pretend to be great "artistes" either...I think they're just having some fun playing some fun music that appeals to a certain audience, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

Takes a lot of balls to say someone sucks to a couple of kids with a video camera 200 meters away from where a band completely unaware of your presence are playing.

For his next daring, ballsy criticism he is going to hang sh*t on Creed and Nickelback

faith no more kick ass, i dont mind a couple of wolfmother songs, they mostly annoy me especially the way they parade around with that fro guy who actually thinks he lives in 1969. one band i hate is short stack, three chord punk androtops who used myspace to try and gain popularity instead of putting the hard yards in, not toomention they look gothic drag queens

what about epic, thats the song i recognise faiht no more for more than sunday monring

Or Ashes to Ashes... Both were massive commercial hits, far more than a bonus track that was on Angel Dust. War Pigs never really got that much airtime.

LOL, LOVE this thread.

As a young child having NFI about music... ffs i was into top40 sh*t etc etc... then Jet came along, i got into them... My first concert was Wolfmother at the Hordern, who i also loved at the time. I was instantly in awe of their live performance.

Since then i had a musical education, if you will, my interests are varied and diverse, my fav bands ranging from the likes of Sly & The Family Stone to Alice in Chains to Tool (just 3 off the top of my head)...

I saw Mike Patton play with the Fantomas in early 2009 opening for Serj Tankian (i think, don't know went to a few gigs round that time) - they were amazing. That voice has to rate highly in the all-time lists, and major props for their experimentation & organisation. I also saw Faith No More at this year's Soundwave and they managed to outclass a star studded line-up, it was a perfect live performance, full of energy, showmanship, precision rhythm and great tones.

I was also at the 2nd AC/DC show where i managed to catch Wolfmother's entire set. I was bored. Sure they played some of their usual stuff, but their gusto has been lost since the line-up change + their lack of quality really hit home hard (especially followed by the awesomeness of AC/DC.) Wolfmother are nothing to write home about. I wouldn't disrespect them purely due to their similarities in sound with past decades... more their music is a contemporary success in the same way the likes of Paramore send people into a frenzy - simplicity/catchiness without much musical integrity which is perfect for the average listener.

Mike Patton simply stated what many think already, i don't think there is anythign to be gained from questioning his qualifications for having an opinion.

So we all agree - Faith No More are one of the great bands and Angel Dust is one of the great albums.

Wolfmother = truly woeful.
