A lot better than the Bob Rock produced sh*t. Thank f**k that hair metal loser is history.

Death Magnetic is pretty good; however it will always be my opinion that Cliff Burton's classical training and musical genius was the key to the first four albums magic(I know he was dead and buried by Justice, but his influence was still apparent)

First Metallica album I've enjoyed since 1988.

I've been overseas so haven't heard the album yet, so here's my question:

Is this actually a good Metallica album or is it made to sound good because St Anger was such a steaming pile of turd?

its not great. its not terrible. its 100 times better then st anger.

its nowhere near their stuff from the 80's...so dont be expecting that.

it is definately a grower tho, every review or person ive spoken to about it has had to listen to it 2-3 times before they really get into it. i was the same, at first i was very "meh" but now i really like some songs...there are a couple i dont like tho. there are certain parts, riffs and vocal moments of awesomeness but as a whole its just pretty good. not great, but far from sh*t.

also ive also noticed that they have pretty much released most of the songs on the net anyway!! i think its atleast 6-7 songs they have streamed on their site.

Hetfield still says YA! at the end of every word in the song I heard.
It has some pretty cool riffs and changes going on.

Have been listening to it about twice a day at work..

A couple of Kirk's solo's sound out of place and cyanide is a definate weak point on the album but f**k, Broken beat and scarred and all nightmare long are worth buying the album for all on their own..

Some other good stuff on there, TDTNC grows on you in a big way..

It's the best thing they have released since 1991...........it's distorts and $hit, but honestly, I couldn't care less, the music is great, I havent had goosebumps like this from a metallica album for 17 years. I feel like a 13 year old again.

What ever it was he produced with Metallica it sure as hell wasn't hair metal.

no but he was involved in a lot of that hair genre music back in the day. I don't think he was referring to metallica as such. IMO he was the start of the rot for metallica........I wish Flemming Rasmussen and the boys never had the falling out they did, they may have recorded some decent music betwenn 1996-2003.........
