Top 5 Linebreak Assists
Jonathan Thurston - 23
Benji Marshall - 20
Billy Slater - 18
Luke Lewis - 17
Jarryd Hayne - 17
Todd Carney - 17

I think Pearce was next cab off the rank with 15, the list ended there.

Top Try Assists
Luke Walsh - 29
Robbie Farah - 25
Scott Prince - 22
Benji Marshall - 21

It was actually only a top 4 and I can't find a comprehensive overall stats. list after this. Maybe Mitch was the mysterious 5th player?

Pearce and Lockyer were next with 15 LBA each

Pearce, DCE and Farah were next worth 19 try assists each

Source?

Big League doesn't have Lockyer near that stat.

Edit - Oh wait, you're referring to 2011 - I was referring to 2010.

Well selectors are thinking differently, thankfully.

Daly Cherry-Evans is firmly in the succession plans now, evidenced by his selection in the recent squad. No such honour was bestowed upon Pearce in spite of him being around longer, whatever that means.

I found it curious also you mentioned he's achieved more, which upon examination is a hysterically ignorant statement considering Cherry-Evans has won a premiership and Pearce has not. And although Pearce has represented his state it is basically been by default through lack of better options.

It says more about the clubs than it does about the players...I was talking about what they have done individually.

Pearce was a standout as a junior, became a first grade regular at 18 and has now played over 100 games. He's an automatic selection for his state at age 22 (second year running). How many halves do you know have done that at that age? Doesn't seem like so much of a stretch to say he will play for Australia.

DCE can play and he had a good year but it's just one year and he had great support. Would he rated as much as he is if he played for the Roosters instead? Time will tell how he goes in general tbh.

DCE is quality but the guy hasn't started his second season yet...give it time. Way too early to call as the future of the Aus 7.

I think it's more of a stretch to say that DCE will be the Australian 7 than it is for Pearce. They're the same age and Pearce has been around a lot longer and achieved more at this stage.

Considering DCE has already made his test debut I don't think there's any stretch required.

Was talking about long term option...don't think DCE has done enough to get recognition purely on merit

Well selectors are thinking differently, thankfully.

LOL........yes thankfully.

Even if JT or Cronk were injured.......DCE has already got the wood on Pearce.

It's a bit of a stretch to think the Australian selectors think of Mitchell Pearce at all........

Pearce is a very solid player but he will never be a Johns or Thurston type halfback. He's more in the mold of Cronk who plays to a gameplan very well but is kind of ineffective when things get a bit unpredictable and you need to play whats in front of you.

I think Pearce is the man for the job but he needs some more creativity around him. Farah instead of Ennis would be a start. Really not sure who the 6 should be....

Pearce may keep the gig for now due to lack of other options.
However, I wouldn't be giving him any ownership of the position and when someone better comes along they should be in.

Yeah that's really that attitude that we should be giving to players of our state at the moment.

Mitchell Pearce is reliable, which is exactly the opposite of almost every other half option in NSW. Carney, Campese, Mullen etc. have their flashes of brilliance but the gap between the best and their worst is way too big at the moment.

Pearce doesn't need to be an X-Factor, the go-to man, or whatever the buzz word is at the moment, he needs to be a toiler. Hayne, Uate, Lewis, Jennings, Lawrence, Carney, Bird, Dugan, T-Rex, Mateo - it's not as if the Blues are missing any spark.

He can kick well, he can defend well. And that's really the two key parts of his job description imo.

I think the most logical thing answer is if in Game 1 the halves don't go well, the selectors should bring in Barrett & Kimmorley to replace them.

lol, I feel bad for Wolfman. He's a good player, but will always be remembered for making out with Inglis' hand.

Any second now Bobby is going to tell everyone if Campese didn't get injured Canberra would have gone onto win the 2010 premiership and change the course of Rugby League history as we know it.

:lol: Course not Bobby... Just try getting the great balding one on the field first, no need to worry about SOO

Only gay guys critique another man's looks.

How about critiquing his play? I'm sure you have more than a few memories of him playing ok against your team.
