i am now in two minds, 1st play him in reggies and give some our juniors who are staying a go, BUT realistically while we are still mathmatically a chance we should field our strongest team, and he is definately part of that group.

Good luck to john i say and i only hope we have something lined up to replace him or we could be in trouble for some years to come

mate, if we can't sign a five-eight for next year does that mean we can't sign one for 2008?

We need a reorganisation at the club.
IN the past we have tended to have 2 good PL sides and it hasnt been enough. Whilst other team - Broncos/Storm/Dogs all tend to chase talent to stack the top team.
I have a feeling that this is the way the club is going for next year.
They have decided that John Morris is a solid player but not the option they need at 5/8, therefore they have said goodbye.
I think a new era is dawning at the eels.
One where specialist players will be selected to certain roles.
A solid 'jack of all trades but master of none' type of player wont be needed.

by Joe I think you've absalutely nailed it..

From what i've been told John Morris looks after John Morris- and is very much in awe of his own abilities.

i think they are fair enough comments by johnny .... everyone's bagged our past recruitment/retention efforts, but obessing over getting a wanker like JL back and having it blow up certainly makes me question what the f**k the current mob are doing

funnily enough, he sighned a 1 year with 1 year option in his favour and from what I know he was welcome to take up that option and he chose not to.

thanks Eela.

i thought it was something like that.

makes his comments seem to be motivated by something else....maybe $$$ perhaps.

Umm...What exactly did John do wrong?

Let's see, he's publically criticising the club and talking himself up yet again. Morris thinks he is alot better than he is. Here's food for thought Johnny, if you were a good player, you may have been re-signed!

Good riddance to bad rubbish, it's very poor form to be such an arrogant rat when he's playing like he is and the club is already in trouble. Drop the mongrel for the rest of the year, he doesn't deserve to wear the blue and gold. I haven't heard Hindmarsh talking himself up the way Morris does, and if anyone has the right to do so from our club, it's Hindy.

While we are still a chance at making the 8 we have to play our best available 17 each week.

Thinking of next year too early can cause problems, for example it can leed junior players to have greater expectations of their contract values (if they are getting premature runs in firsts just because we have the poos with one of our current players) which can then have salary cap implications which may limit the future instead of help develop the future as we might hope.

Morris is a top 17 player within this Parramatta sqaud, as is Wade when available, as is Widders... even if they are leaving in 2007.

everything is said is true is it not i agree 100%.

ever heard of the saying a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

well we let go of the won we already had to chase two in the bush (hill and lyon) and we probably wont get them either so well end up with crap all.

Yes, the club has really made us proud this year, haven't they?

Only time will tell if our recruitment policy for next season is successful or not. It's a bit early yet to really know.

strider, the current management are extremely upset at the way the Judas situation panned out especially when the bloke approached us twice, spoken to several players, officials and Hagan, then the clincher!!..asked for a contract to be sent over so he can sign it, the thought process from management was that he would be part of the squad next year. He was never going to be apprached until he decided to come to us initially than we sent him away to think about it a second time around before we made him an offer and he came back to us again. Tony Zappia, who's been working day and night in the past couple of months to try and stitch up deals was extremely upset at what occoured, but no one can undermined the sort of work that Zap is doing at the moment, he's working with no support and without a head coach who would normally consult and works close to him, although I'd imagine that the phone bills to a Mobile in Newcastle would be pretty high.

John Morris was in the coach's plans for next year, he had an option in his favour, but John wanted an extension of 2 years which Hagan couldn't provide at this early stage. sour grapes from a bloke who in reality is only a stop gap five-eight at best.

fair enough - JL has obviously been a tool again .... but i just feel the current management should have known better than to try and get back into bed with that tool after past events

imo he's more than just a tool, but that's another story.

I think management were initially cautious but what do you do when the person in question expressed his desire to comeback more than once and in coming coach expressed his desire to have him at the club?

it's one of those things..

The management certainly should have known better than to chase him again. I just don't understand it. If he was an immortal, you could understand them thinking about it, but he's not.

If we don't end up with a quality pair of halves, i don't want to hear them blame the fact that they "thought" JL was signing. It will be their fault for wasting time and resources chasing someone we should never have looked at in the first place.

As for Johnny. We offer three years to a bloke who deserts us and does nothing but cause heartache for us since his last contract (JL), but can't do the same for our second most consistant player over the same period. Why wouldn't he be pi##sed.

at the end of the day it was the Head coach's call to want him, not management as with most if not all cases in the NRL the head coach is given Autonomy [sp] on who to have at the club.

btw, they are trying to sign a quality five-eight to play outside Tim Smith.
