Bit off topic but seriously if they don't take Mateo out of 5/8 nothing will work.I cant believe they play him there he just doesn't know how to play a proper 5/8 role!

Fee, yes, I would. As Varion said, give him a go to get a taste of first grade for his development and find out what he is made of. If he isn't up to it then put him back in Toyota cup, if the experience mentally scars him as you fear then IMO he was never going to make it anyhow.

There are a hell of a lot of guys besides Pearce currently playing NRL who made their NRL debuts at 19 or younger, in fact most of the good ones today actually made their debuts at an early age.

I think the only ones calling for him to be picked are the media... simply because they are short on stories?

Good on him for signing on for another year. I suspect he will be developed to make the bench of firsts sometime next season - although perhaps earlier in the case of injury, and only because Finch has now gone.

Sorry Batman but thats just rubbish..He knows he is ready, obviously Ando thinks that way otherwise he wouldnt have pissed finchy off. Ill trust in his own belief, along with the fact he has a few family members who have led him on the right path..just cos he is 19 has nothing to do with it,as Crazyeel said, tell mitchel pearce that.

I'm just saying I doubt he's ready, based on what I've seen when catching any of U20s. If he was dominating, then yeah give him the step up now. But he looks to be struggling to get the best out of that team imo, and Kris Keating has shown me a lot more against higher calibre opposition. Chris Lawler showed me more, the Witt brothers showed me more all at this stage in lower grades....

Just because Finch upped and went - and that wasn't planned, at least not at this stage of the season - doesn't mean we should bring a non-established youngster in early imo. Develop him at the intended pace, maybe some first grade bench time at the back end of the year, 20 mins here and there, to help him get a taste and get ready for next season.

Obviously he's got potential, and I look forward to seeing it when it's developed. Not the risk of a disaster before.

And Mitchell Pearce has been overhyped to the max, bacuse of the family connection and the media's interest in a story and perpetuating an angle. Mitchell have 5 missed tackles against us (us!), in our most diaboloical performance for a long time. He may have played origin once, but even he's not ready or well rounded to first grade standard imo.

What has Daniel Mortimer done in the Toyota Cup to automatically step up into First Grade and take away a bench spot from someone else?

He can lead a team around, has a very good passing game, good kicking game,is tough and likes to be involved in defence. He will also take the line on when the opportunity exists because of his vision.Does that about cover it for you.?

KK can do all that and more.

How are the Toyota Cup side faring? What's that? Not much better than the First Grade side, you say?

And where was Mortimer's 'brilliance' on Friday when the game was in the balance?

I want him to succeed. I think you're all trying to make me out as though I don't want him to. I do. But he is not ready - he himself will freely admit he is still learning the halfback position as he goes.

Well in the media today he was quoted as saying " i am ready if they choose me" and i am sure with his father and uncles supporting him through his career he would be able to make that call.

Of course - if the media asks him, "Are you ready, in your eyes, to step up and play First Grade for Parramatta?" he's going to say he is. It would be very negative if he said no.

I just know that he himself knows he's still learning. He's not a 'natural' halfback.

well Raudonikis, we'll see if DA has any idea this week or not, i would of thought that if he was ready enough to make his debut than it would of been done on Friday night.

Stagger all im saying is its obvious who DA wants to be his half, when he chooses to do that only he knows, and he knows best.Im just saying IMO he will cut it.He thinks he will and id like to see it happen for the clubs future. For people to say he isnt a half cracks me up cos if you watch him he is.DA said on triple M yesterday hes not ready just yet but he will be.So i assume he will pick his time.

When I said he wasn't a 'natural' halfback all I meant was that he hasn't played halfback all his life, which is true. He's played fullback, 5/8 and even filled time in at dummy half.

He's made a fairly successful transition from fullback to halfback but he still has some work to do.

Like I said, if he gets chosen I'm there to support him and cheer him.

I just don't really see the harm in waiting an extra week or two so he can really prepare properly for an eventual First Grade assault.

yes, no one is saying that he doesn't have what it takes to be a fine player, it just won't happen right away, you're suggesting that we should throw him to the lions now, i can tell you he needs 6 solid months in a gym to physically prepare himself for the rigours of first grade..

tbh, Mortimer was a 6 and 9 at junior level and played off the bench in the 2007 sg ball grand final.

Fair enough Eelementary.,its obvious its going to happen and i would hope people take it easy and give him a break for this season to settle in and not ride him, expecting him to be sterlo_Otherwise parra should maybe retire the 7 jersey

Mate I agree. If he gets the nod I'll support him and won't burden him with unrealistic expectations.

That's part of our problem - not many people want to play 7 for us due to the immense pressure it has with it.

But Dan Mortimer is a fine young talent and whether he plays Sunday afternoon or 6 months from now I will be behind the kid 100%.
