Kelly's problem is in his head, not his ability.
Surely we have capable people at the club who can sort this out?

I hope he's worth it. It pains me to think that we need to counsel him on things that he should have learnt from home and school. Given that he may have not had the opportunites like some, it well may be necessary. I just hope we are not forced to invest another squillion in him to find out.

And that may very well be the issue here.
Hopefully, we have people with the ability to sort this out.
I'd hate to see him fly off to another club and become a superstar, with his life sorted, just because we didn't have the right people with the knowledge of helping him through any issues which he MAY have.

A creed which holds steady for Mortimer but not for Robson. I know, I know - Jeff had a shocker. He's older. But he has what - 7 First Grade games under his belt? I know, I know - "There's a reason that's the case!"

My point is we're willing to give Mortimer time because he's young and inexperienced, but will crucify Robson when he is also inexperienced. He is NOT the answer, but if you're willing to cut Mortimer some slack I say Jeff deserves some too.

Agree to a point. I'm not going to criticize Robson too much. Fact is he is out of his depth at NRL level. He's had plenty of years in the lower grades to earn his trade, and plenty of experience at least training with NRL sides. The fact is, if a halfback hasn't stamped himself as an NRL level by age 26, the chances of him ever doing so are very slim. Whereas a 19 year old player still has a lot to learn about the position in general and what's required to perform at an elite level.

i hate to offend anyone, but kk and mortimer are not anything special and not the saviours. i hope i am wrong, but we are screwed for many years to come if da is resting his hopes on them.
I agree wholeheartadly with your comments, and thought they were squad players at best but i hope i'm wrong

Mmmmm,
Dont think Reddy or Inu helped the halves much but is that their fault? They stand so flat. I have to say I was a tad concerned when the comentator said after half time that Coach said "play them up the middle". And play them up the middle they did. Dont know about anyone else but watching centres continually running from dummy half seems such a waste to me. If thats the plan we should play 13 forwards.
Has anyone EVER seen Tautai pass the ball?
Mortimer will get better.

Well has anyone considered that Hayne played to help his side out...lets face it Hayne at 50% is currently better then Inu, Etu and Tautai at 100%.

I agree completely. I questioned it a few weeks ago whether our other coaching staff, who have been around a while, should still be here. Too many of our players have got potiential and never make the jump to first grade(Tautai, Hauraki, Inu, Tony Williams, etc) . I truely think that the support staff are not good enough. Im not sure if they were here before the Hagan days, but I hope they arent here much longer now that DA is here.

It also is obvious that Fitzy's decision to make the club welfare officer redundant, has backfired. As soon as that was done, we were in the headlines every month for an alcohol related incident. Hayne, Hauraki, Paulo, Timmy, Riddell, etc.

People are calling for a player clean out, im hoping for a CLUB clean out. We have already changed the two most powerful positions of the clubs (the boards and CEO) but it cant stop there, it needs to filter down and get rid of the dead wood.

I have to agree Tezza, why we got rid of Grima to keep Daisy I will never know. I know one thing though, the Under 20 boys were pissed when that happened & look how there going this year.

Even if Jarryd was not ill last night (which clearly he was) he is entitled to a bad game. He has been super for us this year. Will win the clubs best and fairest now if injured for the rest of the year.

Back on subject: Mortimer: IMO - Shows more promise than anyone I have seen come through.
Can't wait to he get's some better go forward, a motivated team, and a creative Mateo back in the side.
He has the essentials for mine.
Speed, Sense of position, Support play, defence, kicking game.

He has some developing but if he is showing promise in a broken side what will he be like in a side going places???

He is a competitor..... like his uncle and father. He keeps trying and doesn't stop no matter how things are panning out. You can't teach that.

I watched the game again last night and must say that Mortimer has exceeded my expectations. With a big committed pack he could be anything. He actually reminds me of a young PJ Marsh. Very similar style.

I thought he was quite solid too.

The last tackle plays weren't good but sometimes I think they don't know if Robson should get it or Mortimer.

In the last few games, Hayne took some of the last tackle plays.

However, if I was Mortimer, I would take the bull by the horns now and just call for the ball over robson.

I think he can do more with it than robson and I think he will try things.

Once he does that, the others with give him more respect and he can grow in confidence.

yep, he's had 3 solid games for the club and will only get better, i hope he stays there for the rest of the season because the more he's exposed against the big boys the more quality you get out of him next year.

he's a kid with an A+ attitude who can only get better with everygame.

A grade competitor and I think he has a decent kicking, passing and running game and would make a good 5-8 outside KK and would improve our potentcy inside the opposition 20. I dont see Mortimer as a a Prince or Thurston, maybe more a Pearce or Orford where he will play well in a good team but is not a leader, I think KK has the potential to be as good as some of the best halfbacks in the game with some experiance and so I think they could make a lethal combo

4 games into any player's first grade career... I'd have my doubts. Give the bloke a break. He'll learn.

Jake, name me one player in the history of rugby league who has proved himself a superstar after only 4 first grade games. FFS.... if the coach feels at this stage he's our best long term option Im happy with that.

I also said that he's done some good things that has impressed me and that he should stay in the team. It's easy to highlight bits and pieces, you must work for the telegraph.... Anyway i'm undecided on him, i hope he comes good.

I think after 3 games he has definately more than held his own, he should be given the rest of the season to ready him for next year.

guys like thurston and prince didnt explode onto the scene as superstars.
injury held scotty prince back but anyone could see his talent, thurston did some amazing things back at the dogs but was moved around from 5-8 to halfback to bench to Premier League for a long time because of the established halves combo of Anasta and Sherwin. Had he played 5-8 and Anasta moved to lock in 2002 he would have been an instant hit IMO. Mortimer does not possess the talent these guys do IMO, KK has the potential to be as good as someone like Cronk. The only player that will get up to Thurston/Prince standard of the crop of players coming through would have been Timmy and Carney but they both went up the wall.
