Tim Thurston-like? That's a huge call.

not thurston like, I never said that... I said the only two players that would be able to get to that level (as a halfback, not that they play similar games). Timmy would have played his own style but could have been a very very good halfback... im not dure he could reach the same level anymore.

I thought Mortimer was really solid today.

I liked how Sam Thaiday ran straight at him a few times and the kid stood his ground and held his own.

I think his development would be much better if he had a more dominant playmaker inside him, but alas thats not the cards we've been dealt.

Nice work by Mortimer to spot the gap, a decent performance today capped by a try.
Now to back it up next week.

Yep, I agree. His defence was definately great today. They (Thaiday- one of the best 2nd rowers in the comp) ran at him all afternoon (17 tackles - 3 missed) and he passed the test.

His running game was also very solid today.

I think he plays similar to Mitchell Pearce.

He is very good on his feet, that last try was great to watch. He needs to work on his kicking game but that will come. But i thought the best part of his game was his defence. Brought down Thaiday a few times when he looked like busting us.

He is coming along very nicely, and more importantly his undoubted class shines through even if only in glimpses so far.

Mate he is young and inexperiaced and that is what has shone through the most. There have been a few things that he has shown aswell, he is elusive and has a pretty good long kicking game. He will need alot of support from his team, he will not dominate for a few years IMO but will become a classy little player. I am impressed with his efforts tbh, I still think that Keating is a much better player and hopfully they can create a good little combo.

yes you are right, but he has all the attributes to become a very classy half and dont forget him and kk played together as 6 n 7 in the 20s... I just read thru this thread and im glad to see people who doubted he had it say they can see in him a good future, like when u have a think about it how many halves get dallym points in their first 2 games, and i am sure today he will get more...I notice the smileys are still sunburnt here?

Mate he looks good so far, I will not doubt that but its a long way to say that he will be any better than Pearce. Who is to say that he will stay at parramatta etc we might try and snare thurston (rumour is we are in talks already). ATM i am hopful for next year, with KK running the show I think it will make Mortimers role alot easier but if it comes down to it and I have to pick between KK and Mortimer I will pick KK no doubt and I havn't seen anything form Morts that KK can do tbh (i also believe that KK will be a better halfback and Mortz is more a 5-8)

Keating at half and Mortimer at 5/8. Thats Parramatta's future.
I cant recall Tim Smith ever tackling like that. Heres hoping todays performance puts a stop to all the Tim Smith talk. This Mortimer Kid has a go and dosent go missing when things get tight or tough.
Outstanding.
I was impressed with everyone today except Brod Wright and Burts Goal Kicking. Whats gone wrong there? He only kicks the easy ones these days.
Latimores best game and definately showed promise today. Was Fui unwell? He still had a great game but I didnt think he was hitting the line as hard today and he did also come off the bench.

I still don't think he's ready for the week to week grind in this competition but he's definitely getting there.

Mortimer's tackling was outstanding and his kicking game is already better then Robson's.
