in 5years he will be our biggest loss I bet
lol is this sarcasm?
The guy has a heart bigger than Phar Lap but when it comes to skills for a half, he just hasn't got it. He doesn't come close to the loses of Lyon, W. Tonga and Mateo

Not me. He is still a kid. Brian Smith will put the polish on him - if he can't no one can- and give him opportunity. I reckon he could be another Chris Mortimer. It's bred in him....
Danny Mortimer ---the big yellow taxi of the Eels...
That's just my opinion....
I'd say he could kick that distance from a standing start. The difference being the reaction time in the NRL is not much and when under the pressure he doesn't have time to get a decent kick away. That's why he's a useless first grader.

Fed up with being constantly overlooked at Parramatta, five-eighth Daniel Mortimer has now set his sights on the vacant No6 jersey at the Sydney Roosters. The opportunity opened up when the Roosters parted ways with Todd Carney in September after one too many alcohol-fuelled incidents.
While Carney's future remains cloudy, Mortimer agreed to terms on a two-year NRL deal with the Roosters yesterday and immediately outlined his goal of taking over from Carney in his partnership with Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce.
Carney remains strongly linked with Cronulla, but his manager David Riolo and Sharks officials have been tight-lipped about the troubled star's playing situation.
But 22-year-old Mortimer, who played alongside Pearce for the NSW under-17s team, simply hopes this move will get his career back on track.
''That's the only time I've played with him, but if I got a chance to play a bit more with him next year I'll be very wrapped,'' Mortimer, who played just nine games under Eels coach Stephen Kearney in 2011, said.
''[An opportunity] is exactly what this is, they approached my manager a little while ago and said there might be a spot there [with Carney leaving]. It was a long process, but it's been done right and now I'm just really excited to rip in this off-season and hopefully have a really good year next year footy-wise.''
Mortimer, who starred at five-eighth as the Eels made the 2009 NRL decider in his debut year, said it was up to him whether he cemented a spot in Brian Smith's starting lineup.
''There might be a good opportunity for me at the Roosters but that will be up to me and how well I train and how I help myself through this off-season,'' he said.
''It is a nice feeling [to be chased by the Roosters], they're a great club.''

DANIEL Mortimer is set to join the Sydney Roosters next season after inking a two-year deal with the tri-colours yesterday. An Orange CYMS junior, Mortimer was granted a release from the final year of his deal with the Parramatta Eels, freeing the 22-year-old to join the Roosters and potentially fill the void left by wayward five-eighth Todd Carney.
The Orange product was looking forward to the move.
“I can’t wait. I’m really excited about the fresh start,” Mortimer revealed to the Central Western Daily yesterday.
“I’m happy to play anywhere as long as I’m playing first grade.”
The Eels have been chasing a high profile halfback for close to two seasons, and eventually got their man when they signed South Sydney Rabbitohs pivot Chris Sandow on a rich four-year deal mid-year.
Sandow is set to partner ex-Canterbury Bulldog Ben Roberts next season, leaving Mortimer on the outer.
The diminutive five-eighth has been in talks with the Roosters for the last month and now has the chance to partner New South Wales State of Origin halfback Mitch Pearce as the Roosters’ first choice halves pairing for the 2012 National Rugby League season.
“It has been a slow process,” he said.
“We had a look around and there wasn’t much out there and then the Roosters released Todd (Carney), and the opportunity came up.”
It’s also an opportunity for the Roosters.
After making the 2010 grand final on the back of Dally M Medalist Carney, the Rooster’s fall from grace last season was spectacular.
Off field dramas, on field failures, the Roosters were a rabble.
Carney was subsequently dumped and Mortimer’s signature is the first step in the right direction - the first step towards change.
Mortimer said he had spoken to Roosters coach Brian Smith and the veteran mentor believes the young half’s attitude will be an asset to the club.
“He’d heard good reports which is pleasing,” Mortimer said.
“I’m hoping now just to let my training do the talking for me now.”
Mortimer made his NRL debut for Parramatta in round 12, 2009, helping the club to the grand final in the same year.
But he’d hit a stalemate at the club in 2011.
Restricted to just nine first grade games last season, Mortimer was rested in the Eels’ 40-6 win over Cronulla in round 12 and played out the back half of season 2011 with NSW Cup side the Wentworthville Magpies.
Leaving, however, wasn’t an easy decision.
“I’ve still got plenty of friends and fans at Parra,” he said.
Eels Chairman Roy Spagnolo paid tribute to the Mortimer’s contribution to the club since joining the Eels in 2007.
“Daniel has been a terrific member of our club and everyone here has an enormous respect for him,” Spagnolo said.
“It’s obviously been a tough period for him over the past season but he’s shown his class throughout. We’re proud of what he’s achieved with the Eels and we wish him all the best at the Roosters.”
Mortimer said he was primed for a big pre-season with his new club.
“It’ll be massive. My biggest one yet,” Mortimer said.
“It’s exciting, though. There’s new players, new systems, new staff. I’m hoping to settle in well.”
man how negative are everyone in hear towards him, what a joke.
Our salary cap is really going to miss Morts.in 5years he will be our biggest loss I bet

this will be another one of those mateo and inu ones where it comes back and bites you in the ass mark my word.
as the saying goes, pete, you can polish a turd but at the end of the day it's still a turd. Not me. He is still a kid. Brian Smith will put the polish on him - if he can't no one can- and give him opportunity.
unfortunately rugby league genes don't really exist as scott fulton, kane cleal and scott minto have proved.I reckon he could be another Chris Mortimer. It's bred in him....
Yeah I guess ben smith is such a better center and really did the job this year

Pete is the best turd polisher in the business. Just look at Michael Lett and the Raiders.

i thought scott minto was one of wayne bennett's sons?I don't think Scott Fulton or Kane Cleal had the work ethic of Daniel Mortimer.
Scott Minto...is his connection with the "Minto boys"..Mateo, Inu, Folau ????
Hard work pays off, and I reckon the Roosters will be the beneficiary of the hard work ethic of Daniel Mortimer. I hope so anyway. I know both Steve and Chris Mortimer very well and they both rate him highly (as you would expect).
Brian Smith is shrewd judge and he wouldn't waste his time on a kid he didn't think could make it.
Put it this way, Brian Smith is a better judge of a player than you and me (me at least), and the Roosters talent identifier Peter O'Sullivan is one of the best in the business.
O'Sullivan was headhunted by the Chooks for his 'talent indentification skills' when he was at Storm - he uncovered a few when he was at the Storm - Inglis, Folau, Slater, Hoffman, Smith just a few...
