Most difficult games you ever played?

Superman on the Game Gear kicked my ass, probably the same as Master System version because GG was just a handheld MS2 basically

Sonic 2 also I struggled with. Always got to the last level with the tubes and couldnt find the end. Never finished it.

I think those old games were hard because of limited lives, bad saves if any, checkpoints few and far between, no leveling up to speak of and also they relied on gameplay and not flashy graphics.

How is that possible?

Checking the video again it's more like 25 mins. Either way it ruined my childhood

They have them for Supermario and heaps of other games as well. Some nut just blitzing games that took me months to finish in no time. There is a speed run of Mario 64 that is epically quick

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels was crazy hard.

The funny thing is that this was supposed to be Super Mario Bros II for NES, but it was rejected for having the same gameplay only much harder. So instead we got another completely different game in development refactored to use Mario Bros sprites, and this became SMBII

I loved the lost levels, the difficulty was really refreshing.

For mine, finished UN Squadron on the SNES was insanely hard. Took forever but so satisfying to complete.

In terms of car racing games, there's a 'challenge mode' game I can never pass in Juiced. You have to do 1 lap of a particular track within a certain time limit without crashing or hitting anything. So freaking hard. It would be achievable if the time limit was there BUT you didn't have to do it perfectly.

Also while on car racing... 1NSANE - it's impossible to complete the Japan track in off-road race mode and win regardless of the car you pick. If you restrict your opponents to being the same vehicle as you, you might get lucky... but there's no fun in that!

Some of those early cricket games were f**king hard

Was it Brian Lara cricket where it was impossible to get past 50? Id always end up at 4/11 after 2 overs ffs

Not a full game, but Goldeneye 64 should get a mention for Aztec on 00 difficulty

You could easily beat Jaws by running up as close as possible and he couldn't shoot you as his arms clipped straight through you.

This is true, but Jaws isn't the biggest problem.

Its hard enough just to get as far as him, and after that you've got infinite spawning goons with moonraker lasers. Hell even getting out of the first room is rough, one wrong move and its goodnight

Anyone here played (or tried playing) Jurassic Park on SMD? I've managed to finish it a couple of times, but learning the ropes was hard.

And...! Let me just say if you can finish Ghouls and Ghosts, my hat goes off to you. The amount of times I pulled my hair out trying to create a walkthrough to that game for my YT channel has to be close to 100.

Briefly, but yes.

Was easier playing as the Raptor, as Grant as you say its pretty easy to get owned until you get the hang of it.

Jurassic Park on Game Gear was fun as hell but different to what you guys are describing... you had a bazooka, flame grenades, a stun gun and some sonic boom cannon thing. Side scrolling levels and at the end of each was a boss or a dinosaur chasing your car which you had to keep at bay by shooting it in the head for upgrades

The T Rex boss always kicked my ass... Finally beat it once and my battery pack died so never saw the end. My parents bought my GG from the USA ages before they were released in australia. Problem was i had to use a US power pack and it was very touchy. The slightest move and the power would just go. When you think about it, the Game Gear was probably the most advanced console ever for its time. Game Boy was black and white yet Game Gear had master system 2 graphics on a hand held. Plus you could watch tv on it, play MS2 games and it was really ergonomic.

Never forget playing Dick Tracy on the GG, f**k that game was hard. As was toejam and earl

It's all about marketing Gonzo. Nintendo always had Master System beat there, even though I personally thought everything about Sega >>> Nintendo in the Console War days...

  • Game Gear > Game Boy
  • Master System > NES
  • Mega Drive > SNES

Probably bias talking, but to each their own!

The SNES destroyed the Mega Drive imo.

Way better audio and the colours seemed much clearer and defined. I had, but at separate times, lol. My MGD broke down and we bought a SNES. Donkey Kong Country was the bomb.
