Does big name mean the number of letters in their name because if not none of these were ever "BIG NAME" signings.

Ehhh for us and Doust they probably are.

Dylan Farrell - Under 20's Winger of the year
Luke McDougall - Souths leading tryscorer 2 years in a row.
Dane Nielson - SOO Representative
Chase Stanley - NZ International
Simon Woolford - Country representative

And folks just to top the lot...the idiot Widdop has been charged with tripping following Thursday nights debacle. What a clown!

I have also started noting that whispers about Widdops true ability have started to emerge in the papers and on various league talk shows. Seems like others are on to him as an over-rated pedestrian.

Obviously VAS has yet another nom de plume or a twin.

Yes, Tony went on Kangaroo tour in 1967 then came to the Dragons as a 5/8.dragons signed Phil Hawthorne a year later and he was A 5/8 !! We had more money than sense in the late 60's.

drake was a running lock who came from manly and played for NSW the year before. He initially formed a good partnership with Billy Smith , running off his legendary passes. problem was he didn't like Tackling and the hard stuff.

Think Rogers played well but not like a superstar that he was.We obviously got him with some of the money that Mark Ella wouldn't take .

Peter Sullivan , Australian Rugby captain and backrower , played one first grade game and lasted one season.

Martin Offiah played 14 games for the dragons and scored 11 tries. He could run 100m in around 11 seconds in football boots. Yep, a real loser.

Please learn to interpret the post.

I never suggested either was a loser but used them as examples of "big name signings" in line with the name of the post.

In fact since O'Connor and Offiah we have actually had very few big name signings in respect of current international quality players.

Many of the losers offered up and commented on were never ever big name signings and don't fit the criteria of the topic.

I have read every thread on this subject with great interest. There is not one name on this list(although there are some good ones) who could even get close to the South African winger Trevor Lake.
Surely we must all realise now that we are not the once great club we once were, so we can't buy players or coaches to compete as we did in previous times.
It seems funny that the clubs who have amalgamated have become basket cases.

Unfortunately Rogers spent most of his 2 years with us recovering from 1982 & its Kangaroo tour. He came to us pretty much busted.

When he was on the field, he was tremendous.

I'd wager he also had a hand in Michael O'Connor's successful on-field transition to league as well.

Trevor Lake came to St George from South African RU where he was a prolific try scorer and a real speedster.

He came to the Dragons and unfortunately played only 8 games over 2 seasons after suffering a career ending knee injury.

He did score 4 tries in the 8 games including an absolute belter at the SCG.

No doubt if not for injury he would have been a complete success at rugby league and scored many a great try for the Dragons.

Plenty of others deserve the tag before Lake.
