Most underrated film

Thought I'd be receiving more grief for my Hulk nomination tbh,
I've barely met anyone who liked that movie.

I couldn't stand Hulk lol, but I can see why others might like it.
I see what it was trying to achieve, but I could never take the plastic CGI Hulk and X-Box style action scenes seriously. Norton's movie was colossal failure too.

Yes I meant John Carpenter's The Thing, although I thought the recent prequel was actually pretty good too and didn't quite deserve the hate it got. It was a solid movie.

Other nominations I saw back there:

True Romance is amazing! Its my favourite of all Tarantino movies. Tony Scott and the ridiculous cast took his script and actually improved it, I don't think a non-linear narration would have been as good, and the originally scripted ending just sucks.

Sleepers, also very good and surprisingly ignored when it was released. Won't see a cast like that assembled every day.

I loved Watchmen.
I haven't read the book though, so I don't have an opinion on if it's an effective adaptation.

I'm guessing you mean John Carpenter's The Thing. That was another one of those movies that was incredibly under-appreciated on first release, but has built up a bit of a following now. Still underrated though. It's a classic suspense/horror.

I read watchmen before the movie came out. The movie itself was pretty much lifted from the pages of the book, it was that faithful. Definitely not a typical superhero movie, a lot more darker and grittier than anything else released lately, but I think a lot of people had a hard time taking it seriously on account of dr manhattans blue dong swinging around in every scene he was in

The Adventures of Ford Fairlane - the 14 year old me loved it but the critics hated it.

Cannibal the Musical - panned by all (low budget and dark humour) but it's piss funny.

The Adventures of Ford Fairlane hasn't really stood the time test though. I loved it back in the day, but don't really think much of it now.

yeah I'm a bit reluctant to watch it again and conclude the critics were right

Love Ford! The funny thing was that that wasn't even Andrew Dice Clay at his worst!

I laughed my arse off when he got kicked off whatever pooncy breakfast show he was invited on to and then the media, the feminists and the good taste and manners society were up in arms. FFS. Did they even bother to do their research in to him. What did they expect him to do.

And for the record I would Kangaroo-f**k Georgie Gardner as well....

One that came to my mind was Funny People a Judd Apatow film starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen

I actually really enjoyed this movie , I found it very funny, witty and well written. Also it's good to see Sandler in a somewhat dramatic role instead of just cracking off fart jokes in one of his usual films which are only entertaining for 11 year olds.

The general consensus I have heard from people about this movie was that it wasn't funny, too long and just boring.

The Insider.

Not sure why it hasn't gotten as much love as it should have received - the story itself was interesting, but the fact that it features two protagonists and deals with the complex political issues and the emotional fallout that goes with them makes it a movie I enjoy watching over and over.

It could simply have been all about Jeff Wigand and his testimony, but the film also explores Lowell Bergman's struggle to air the story and the emotional rollercoaster both protagonists (and their families) are subjected to.

A great film.

Lots of great movies being nominated. The Insider - good call.

Donnie Brasco - could be the best mob/gangster movie

Sexy Beast - awesome performance by Sir Ben Kingsley. You'll never forget Don Logan once you have seen this.

I did think it was too long, but the (relative) lack of laughs didn't bother me at all.

Have you seen Punch-Drunk Love? That's Sandler doing another somewhat dramatic role. His best performance for mine. I am a fan of Paul Thomas Anderson movies though, and he's not exactly a mainstream guy.

Actually I'd put pretty much all of his films into this list.
Maybe Boogie Nights gets the love it deserves.

Tears of the sun
The thin red line
Donnie Darko
Stargate
8 below
The butterfly effect

I need to give The Thin Red Line another go, I saw it a long time ago and it wasn't what I expected at all. Couldn't get into it.

Agree The Butterfly Effect gets a lot of hate for some reason, yes its full of plot holes but its seriously entertaining and surprisingly dark.

Don't know about Donnie Darko, I really don't rate that at all but I know I'm in a minority there.

I absolutely hated "The Thin Red Line"...turned it off after 40 minutes.

Donnie Darko is alright. It's pretty funny in parts.

The sequel S. Darko, about his sister, is definitely NOT worth watching.
