but just because i can't see it happening doesn't mean it wont happen.. if we do win it we can do just about anything this year.

Yup, if we do happen to win on Friday night things are looking very very good indeed.

Imho give the team a month or two to settle into Smithy's structures under match conditions and add Johns and Buderus to the line-up and you are looking at a 30-point better side, maybe more.

Just wondering, if Mullen is ruled out, does that increase the likelihood of Joey playing??

Just that they didn't want to risk Joey and he should be fine for the Canberra game.

And he has faith in abes

This is from
http://news.leaguehq.com.au/abraham-shock-replacement-for-johns/20075920-39j.html

Abraham, a former Country Origin lock, was a shock choice in the No.6 jumper with teenage playmaker Jarrod Mullen sliding over to halfback.

It had been assumed Kurt Gidley would return to the halves after his match-winning efforts when moved there to replace Johns against the Bulldogs.

But Smith decided to leave him at fullback where he had been originally selected for the season-opener.

"I've been a fan of (Abraham's) footy since I picked him with the country selectors a couple of years back," Smith said.

"Everyone knows he's got talent, he's got himself fitter and a bit more continuous time and confidence is coming.

"He's got an opportunity in a bit of an unusual position perhaps but he'll be right. He can play anywhere."

Us knights fans know he's got talent too
He had a good game yesterday
I'm sure he will go well @ 5/8 on friday night

This is one of the best bits of info coming out of the camp to date this season. Abes back to something like his best is basically another quality player added to the roster. I've been skeptical about whether he could find his old form, but Smithy would know -- and it sounds like he expects him to get better and better with each game. How Abes goes at 5-8 on Friday night could be a bit of lottery, but if sometime down the track we start to see something like his best form, the team will benefit in a big way.

Whew!!!

Just heard
Mullen has been cleared
I could have saved you all the trouble and told you at the start of the day ;-)

On Abes being named at five-eight, its something which I'm not too upset about seeing. He played a lot of the game on Sunday playing five-eight, so it won't change our gameplan too much. Kidley still gets to keep his rover role and Polglase can come on and get hammered again ;-)

Anyone know what the odds are for our game and who the ref is?

Steve Clark, so expect to see the teams marched 10m for back chatting on numerous occasions:D

Still too early for Tab prices.

Stevie Clark's the ref. Not sure on the odds, but no doubt we're outsiders

Good thing Mullen has been cleared of anything serious. I really want to see how Mullen goes this time round since he is solely in control of the team. Abraham will certainly add his bit in when needed, but Mullen will be playing first receiver and directing all the plays, as well as being given fill responsibility of the kicking duties. Whenever he has been chucked in the deep end and expected to do something he has performed. Just go back to last year and that field goal and that is a classic example. He gets a full week to prepare knowing that Johns won't be alongside him. I've just got this feeling he is going to play an absolutely brilliant game.

The Abraham to 5/8th is an interesting move to say the least. I wasn't a big fan of Lowrie in the number 6 last year because it didn't work on paper and didn't work in practice. It seemed like a stop-gap measure to make sure whoever was there would make tackles and not drop the ball. Ironically, I don't have the same objections with Abraham. Unlike Lowrie, Abraham is a genuine allrounder that could slot in anywhere. He started his first grade career as a lanky fullback who reminded me a bit of David Peachey. He still does, albeit now with an incredible amount of bulk.

At 106kg, he'd have to be the heaviest 5/8th in the competition this week. But his power-to-weight ratio would be a lot higher. Here is a bloke that has stacked on some bulk and hasn't really lost a lot of agility (in the broad scheme of things). I don't mind the move, provided Mullen is fit.

If Mullen pulls out, I think we need to slot Kurt Gidley in there somewhere and bring a specialist in to finish the combination. With Walsh out indefinately, it begs the question: who could you bring in? It's all a bit inconvenient having Johns and Buderus both missing, but losing Mullen would be a killer blow. The plus side is that there is enough flexibility there to slot players like Thaiday, Uate, Brown and Polglase in without disrupting things to any great extent -- either before the game or during it. I just hope Mullen is fit -- that would make the whole side settle a lot more. You can afford to shift your backline, or fiddle with the starting big men. But changing the halves combination, or bringing fresh heads in mid-week, is a bit of a gamble.

Kurt should take some kicking duties too I'd imagine, should the opportunity arise, plus he had a couple of boots out of dummy half on Sunday so it shouldn't end up with every kick attributed to Mullen.

And those stats on Lowrie vs. Abraham might be a bit misleading due to time spent on the field and their role - Abraham was the better player for mine because of his work that isn't on those stats, he didn't have the kind of game where he was looking to run the ball up the guts all day, but he was very solid and useful as opposed to Lowrie's regulation benchie game. Tbh though I hope Lowrie has a good year.
