Guys, you really shouldnt get too excited about flashy players who excel against substandard defensive patterns that are the hallmark of the toyota cup.
Yes he is a good player but it is another thing making the step up to NRL level.
His manager has obviously found a good deal for him at Penrith and good luck to him.
I would rather see how Mara goes before bemoaning losing a "star" from the toyota cup.
Locke and Tupou havent exactly set the world on fire after excelling in toyota cup (much like Nafe has excelled). Its boys against boys in Toyota cup. Lets see how he goes against men when he plays for Penrith. If he turns into a star, then yes, our recruiting team screwed the pooch. But im prepared to show a little faith in them for now and see how we go with the players they did spend money on retaining.

Is Kingston still gonna be at the Panthers next year cos he starts ahead of Iosefa which would make Nafe 3rd choice hooker?
Kingston will be there to 2013. Perhaps Nafe figures being 3rd choice hooker at Penrith is better than being 4th choice hooker over here.

Warriors coach John Ackland shook hands on a fresh two-year deal a day before piloting his under-20s side to next Sunday's Toyota Cup grand final - but his matchwinning player has rejected a new contract with the club.

Ackland's side didn't lead until the 67th minute, but edged a seven-point win over the Bulldogs on Friday night to secure their first-ever final appearance which was sparked by a searing break from hooker Nafe Seluini to create Glen Fisiaahi's late winner.

But while Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah said he was ''delighted'' Ackland would be staying on, Seluini has rejected an off-season training contract with the first grade squad to sign for Penrith.

Up to nine of this side will play first grade next year, although only five of those with the Warriors. Backrow Matt Robinson, winning tryscorer Glen Fisiaahi and wing Ivan Penehe - absent on Friday with a knee injury - have senior contracts for next year and half Shaun Johnson and hooker Elijah Taylor are already in the club's senior squad. But Seluini is off to the Panthers, prop Mark Ioane has signed for Canberra, wing Elijah Niko for Melbourne and centre Siuatonga Likiliki has been recruited by Newcastle.

''That's what happens,'' said a sanguine Ackland.

Asked about Seluini, he said: ''I'm pleased for him, he's worked hard at his game, he competes hard and hsi defence has improved significantly. He's a very streetwise little football player.''

You're always going to lose some, but it is a real, real shame to lose this bloke- in the same category as young Johnston

This.

The bloke was the best junior coming through, and we screwed it up. That's all there is to it, really. We stuffed up in our recruitment systems. We need to do a Brisbane and see these types of players into first grade, not shipped off shore. Even the whole John Ackland comment that he helped Mark Ioane going to Canberra is a nonsense approach.

You can't cement them all brother. As much as I share your disspointment there was no way he would get a go every week with us. Him taking this opportunity now will make him a better player for us when he returns LOL (wishful thinking)

I got one man that we all should get excited about for 2011 and that is Alehana Mara, this guy will be the big "WOW" next year. Nafe is not as good as Mara is. Nafe will get his chance to shine however (hopefully not against us)

Yep, a real shame. But like has been said before, ya can't keep them all.

Nafe reminds me of Tevita Latu. But let's hope he doesn't pass the pitch up, smack a bitch up.
