I have been a Knights supporter since the start of the team... and well there seems to be a lot happening at the club operationally.. if everything you read in the press can be believed....

I found this article quite interesting...

Knights Make New Appointments

Tuesday, June 07, 2005 - Newcastle Knights
The Newcastle Knights have today announced that 2004/05 Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins has accepted the club’s invitation to take up a position as the club’s ‘Ambassador at Large’.

Also announced today was the appointment of Ross Cadell as the club’s new Sales and Sponsorship manager.

After completing her reign as Miss Universe recently, Jennifer Hawkins will take up the newly formed role, becoming an advocate for the club and attending major Knights events and games.

The local girl from Holmesville has had a long-standing association with the Knights as a cheerleader up until 2004.

Ross Cadell, also a Novocastrian is taking over from Nathan Thurston who will leave this Friday.

Cadell has extensive experience in motor sport sponsorship, a role that has taken him around the nation and the world.

Speaking today Cadell said he was looking forward to his new role.

“The level of support from the Newcastle fans, both corporate and otherwise is clearly one of the club’s real strengths,” he said.

“I’m eager to work with such a strong brand, build on it and help secure the financial future of the Knights”

This Ross Cadell bloke must either be very brave, or very dumb... to walk into a club with so many problems (so the media keep telling us) and all the noise about a new sponsor (which we heard from the last guy too... where is that Gizmondo cash????) every week that goes past....

Not sure how you would go about finding sponsorship for our beloved club... if the last dozen or so rounds are held up as the best we could do :(:(

Dammit.....and I just got my free jersey with the Telstra offer WITHOUT a sponsor on it.....geeeez

Blank Jerseys, blank faces. They haven't a clue..... and that's what worries me. I suspect that this latest rumour is just to keep the fans from beginning a coup d'etat.

But where would they go? There are the Knights and there are the Knights. Its not like being in Sydney and driving 20km up the road to see Wests or Souths or Easts play....

A coup d'etat involves the overthrow of the unliked administration, not defecting to another team.

I was pointing out the bleeding obvious that the sponsorship for this year would be less due to half the year being over, unless you want to argue about that  . Get over yourself. I am employed and tertiary qualified in Marketing and Sales, I know what I am talking about and I put it to you that you have absoluetly no idea sunshine.

No other team in the competition would accept 600k a season and good luck to the Knights asking for an increase for that after 1 season. Souths will be wearing Cinderella Man on their jerseys for 8 matches in July/August for 250K and you think that 26 matches is worth 600K. 1 million a year is what every club aims for and I am sure that the Knights would be offereing 2006 for around 800K. They are far better offering the rest of 05 at a cut price rate and 06 at full price. That way they still get the money they want and the security they want without dropping the value of their major sponsorship to the point where it will hurt them for years to come. The sponsor doesn't care because they are looking at the full term commitment.

You have NFI.

You goose. No wonder you follow St George as u r the 1 with NFI

There is NO Club in the NRL that commands $1M a Season. Broncos are beleived to obtain $700k a Season. The Knights b4 Bathurst scandals and Managment being finally recognised as a joke, used to get an average of $550k over the past 3 years. Fact dipstick.

So if they can get $300k for 1/2 a season they are doing well. If they can get $600K for ANY future year they are also doing exceptionally well - after 205's debacle.

So you work in Sales & Marketing and are TERTIARY qualified - wow you are my hero. That means you learnt from a text book. Well welcome to the real world!

I am sure if YOU can find a Sponsor willing to pay $1M a year and if you can I can assure you, the Knights would be more than happy to give you $400k a year you dreamer!

OK Nuffy - I will take you on. I BET It doesnt happen by Monday

I think Nuffy is saying the same thing. My reading was that he is looking for someone who is prepared to bet that it DOES happen on or by Monday.

I'm similarly skeptical.

Listen Bean Counter. If you would like some tips and advice on how to conduct Professional Business dealings and not sell yourself short in negotiations then just ask. Otherwise go back to preparing your tax returns at ITP Tin Man.

Ok Mr S&M - Its rumoured to be $750,000 for 2006 Season so looks like YOU could have got them $1M a Season you hereo. So u reckon they should tell Coal & Allied where to get off unless they cough up another $250k. Keep dreaming buddy. I bet you also fantasize about St George winning a premiership again too. They blew it in 1999 hey mate?

Mate its a good thing that you have absoluetly no involvement in your club. You go on ranting and raving about Conway being sacked for poor performance when you would send the club broke within mintues.

This might be a revelation to you but if you want $750 000 for a major sponsorship you don't ask for $750 000. You aim for a million and negotiate from there. If you don't beleive that clubs are asking for a million for a major sponsorship when the TV rights are being bandied around for 40 million you have no idea. The Saints where negotiating a million with St George Bank in 2003. And as I have already said Souths have a 250K sponsorship for 8 weeks.

On a related note, the Newcastle Permanent Building Society has announced they will fund a 38 meter permanent video screen on the southern hill at EA stadium.
