Maybe the players like spending time with family......... If we had 3 away games in a row..... Say, Melbourne, nz then Brisbane..... Would they just be away from their home for 3 weeks?

If they dont like it they need to harden the f**k up. 3 weeks is not a long time to be away from your family. Travel and camps are a part of the job. Is a player going to knock back a kangaroo tour for a month or an origin camp for a couple weeks because they will miss family? nope.

Going into camp has a lot of positives, its cost effective, allows better preparation and probably best of all for our club is it allows the team to bond a bit (hopefully without any scandals).

This. If players started whinging about a 3 week camp then fmd that would do me. Remember they would be spending a lot of that time away from their families anyway since they are away games.

Edit: Is it cost effective? You would save on travel but likely incur a lot of other expenses. You would be feeding the blokes for 3 weeks and paying their rooms. You would probably have to stump up some cash to get training facilities. You would have to be bringing trainers and the doctor and physios with you as well.

I am still a big fan of a Super Bowl style GF build up.Thebexpectations on the players is ridiculous especially the breakfast. The out of Sydney teams just get hammered and are up against it. Travel is what has killed the NZ Warriors in part, as they have a 3 hour time zone shift every time they return from a visit here and at best two when daylight saving is over in April.

Play the All Stars vs Indigenous game the weekend after the prelims and have a 14 day turnaround for the big game. Means they can hype it more, better chance of full squad availability, and a huge fan forum and review by experts of the season as a whole. The NRL don't hype well. Some GFs are boring in the lead up. Needs more Wrestlemania, Super Bowl, FA Cup style build. Really go all showman.

I thought it would just be considered a part of the job...

Origin camp is just shy of a two week comitment and English tours/WCs have guy away for 8 weeks at a time.

Obviously it would be at the coaches discretion (will they benefit more from less travel or sleeping in their own beds).
