Most of them don't deserve to be paid at the moment. Will be interesting to see if there's a word of truth in it... concerning if there is.

Mate, thats a bit harsh. They are old men playing what is suddenly a very young mans game again.

The Great Man has won his last premiership. His model is obsolete and he knew that with the way he bought, his window was extremely small.

Prelim last year with an old as fugg roster. They are still having a go and will jag a few. Just passed them by.

Big clean out coming.

My company paid us late once, it caused all kinds of shit...anyone who had direct debits etc set up for pay day were reimbursed by the company if they were charged for not having the money or being overdrawn.

If players are being paid late etc it will probably effect your ability to retain those players.

The only 2 old boys that aren't pulling their weight at the moment are Gidley and Willie. In Gids case, getting upstaged by Travis Waddell is not a good look... in Willie's case, he just doesn't have the motor to be a starting prop. Scott and Smith are regularly amongst our best week in, week out... and Fa'alogo has been great too. Our issues are at hooker and fullback at present... has little to do with age and windows and more to do with haggard luck to start the season.

The Packer incident really f**ked us, we needed that extra big prop badly. Snowden missing the entire pre-season with surgery hasn't helped, either... he's at an all time low fitness wise, too.

Bit harsh on Mason imo. We don't get big minutes out of him but he certainly has an impact. He was quite strong against Canberra in his 1st stint.
As for Gidley I'll give him a couple of weeks to get match fit & used to the role. If he doesn't give someone else (preferably Clydesdale) a run.

He's not a starting prop - if he has good impact he should be played from the bench as an impact forward. We need someone willing to dig in and do tough stuff in his role at the moment.

Not saying they're not among your best, just saying its a young mans game with the new rules.

The new rules are certainly pushing the limits of fitness at the moment, agreed on that.

I think if we can sort out our spine, a lot of other things may well fall into place... but it's probably going to be too late for us by then this year. I daresay there will be a bit of a cleanout at this years end, Wayne has been saying for probably 12-18 months that he wants to bring top line talent to the club in 2015... and we've got quite a bit of cap to work with already without losing anyone.

exactly.

tinkler has cleared off their debts, if he loses control of the knights now it wont be an issue

much like delmege and manly.

as long as the club is run responsibly they should be fine financially

whether they can afford wayne bennett is another thing

It was never run responsibly before, and it could be argued that the Gidley snr era is not much of an improvement.

That entire article is about him not being needed anymore.

And no decent person would want a grub like him around.

And it is my business as a rugby league fan because him involved in rugby league in any way is an embarrassment to us all.

How is having Tinks around the game any more embarrassing than having BJ leilua on the books?

finances are different now, the NRL grant is 1 million above the salary cap for starters

and dave smith in the past said he would look at giving different clubs extra based on need

im sure in the future if it meant a strong newcastle the ARLC could well increase the grant to the club over say clubs in sydney

the club's debt free and got a brand new stadium so its a great base to go from here.

plus nothing stopping Wests Leagues buying it outright and topping up any shortfalls themselves.

tinkler has done a good job for the knights, hes no longer important to their future, theyd be better off without him now

It will be good for the Knights to have someone else running the show. They've wanted it since day 1 of this union. This was a marriage about money, and now the money is gone.

Biggest issue for the Knights when it all changes is knowing that they really shouldn't run the place themselves, unless they go through a complete cultural shift and a clean out. There has been two ongoing problems at the club since it's inception - an inability to generate revenue and a lack of leadership. Take Tinkler away and they are currently bringing in bugger all cash while spending more than ever, and the CEO is an old boy from the party days who told Mason that a DUI charge wasn't a big deal.

Wests won't cop that stuff, and if they are to be the "saviour" they won't be involved unless they have both hands on the wheel. They reckon that Gardner is a hard arse who drives a hard bargain. That is a good thing.

Weren't the Knights in a position last year where they could have walked away with $20 million from Tinkler?
