Knicks waived Jalen Rose.
Another puzzling move by Zeke, if I understand how the cap works the Knicks will still have to pay his salary this year (or at least most of it), which is the last in his contract (from memory). Why dump a guy in the final year of his contract when you could trade him later on in the year to a team looking to dump salary?

Oh well, at least year 2 of the Jerome "Big Snacks" James experience is still going to happen.

Most pro teams in New York don't give a sh!t about money. If you think about it, they freed up over $60 million in cap space (and they are still over) by buying out contracts (Maurice Taylor and Jalen Rose) and by letting a few contracts expire (Houston, Jerome Williams, Shandon Anderson). They are still in a big hole atm though...

Ohh yeah, imo IF the Heat pick up Jalen Rose, expect another championship there ...

I'm 90% sure they are gonna buy the contract out...

One smokey is the Magic imo. You got Dwight and Darko, Jameer Nelson, a hopefully healthy Grant Hill (hopefully) and J.J. Redick will probably get good minutes - I reckon they can get one of the last couple of spots in the East.

Whoever said that Eddie Griffin goes off one night and then goes sh!thouse the next 5 nights is on the money. I've had him on my fantasy team for years and the bloke is too inconsistant. If he ever pulled his finger out of his ass and played consistant basketball, he could be the next Ben Wallace imo (with a pretty decent three point shot)...

I don't think they will challenge for the title for a few years yet. Although I like their team. Backcourt is small (which seems to be the style atm), they have a soon to be dominant big man, and a shotblocking/rebounding centre in Darko. The future is bright...

Players salaries still count towards the cap even after they've been released though, so I don't understand why Thomas wouldn't at least try and get something back for Rose (even if it's just cash and a couple of second round picks). Rose is well past it but would hold appeal to a team like the Suns, where he'd be essentially on loan for this season only, similar to Tim Thomas last year.

I'd say Thomas would of tried to get something in return for Rose but there isn't a market for him trade wise. I would of liked to of seen Philly send C-Webb for Rose and fillers to get some cap relief(and weaken the team so we can get a good lottery shot). The raptors shopped Rose around for ages and had to throw in a 1st rounder and around 3 mill to get Antonio Davis in return ffs.

I like Rose and think he would help the heat but geeze another old guy.

I like the look of Bynum from the Lakers. 18 points,9 rebounds, 5 assists in only about 20 minutes in his first game as a starter.

He's still a teenager. Could be something special...The next great Lakers big man perhaps??

I always assumed that when a player is "Bought out" the salary is automatically cut from the cap. Thus, freeing up money to make a run at the free agent market straight away.

On the other hand, when a player is "Waived", that players salary still counts towards the cap...

I don't know...I'm confused

How many years did Rose have left on his current contract?? Because if he had more than one year remaining it would make perfect sense to buy him out and free up the cap space straight away...

Rose was in the final year of his contract i'm 99% sure. I remember this because he expired a year before Webber who is next year.

Bynum will be serviceable in a few seasons. He will get banged around to much this season and go back to being a 2nd/3rd string c when Mihm and Brown return. The suns don't have a real c anyway.

Robert Traylor for Dirk Nowitzki

Vlade Divac for Kobe Bryant

They could of been a great team with two superstars currently in their primes...
