NBA Off-Season Signings/Trades

Cant believe they traded a good 1st round pick for a few months extra of Gerald Wallace...

It could work out.

The Magic aren't getting anything worth a damn because they know the only team Dwight will re-sign for is the Nets.

So what do the Net's do? Re-sign Lopez and Wallace...use them in a package with about 3 First Rounders to get Dwight.

Then you have 3 guys in Deron Williams, Joe Johnson & Dwight Howard to build your team around with a talented young player like Brooks.

On top of that Kirilenko is said to be wanting to return to the NBA and probably with the Net's...so at worst he is a role player.

Then you just find a SF/PF for the mid-level or vet min and you are off and running to a play-offs.

I'd think a guy like JJ Hickson would love to be there for a year to up his value for example.

The Nets and Hawks are closing in on a deal involving Joe Johnson.
Brooklyn will acquire Johnson for Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, a re-signed Deshawn Stevenson and Houston's 2013 protected first round pick.
Howard Beck of the New York Times reports that the trade has been agreed upon in principle and that it won't be finalized until the moratorium is lifted on July 11.

Looks like that deal is done.

I really do not know how they will fit Johnson, Wallace, Williams and Dwight into their salary cap. Good on them if they can! Johnson gets hated on but he is not a bad player he is just over paid.

Looks like the Hawks have also traded Marvin Williams for Devin Harris - http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/221992/Hawks_Jazz_Agree_To_Williams_For_Harris_Swap

Still on the Hawks

With their trades of Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams, the Hawks have emerged as a new potential destination for Dwight Howard.
Howard grew up in the Atlanta area and is close friends with Josh Smith, as well as the newly acquired Anthony Morrow.
Howard has previously shown little interest in the Hawks, but could make a trade for him using Al Horford and Jeff Teague, or could also pursue him in free agency next summer.
The Hawks currently would have enough cap space to pursue both Howard in Chris Paul next summer.

I hope this happens. It would be sick to see CP3, Smith and Dwight at the Hawks.

Purely from a talent standpoint, the Nets obviously won the trade.

The bit that is confusing is that it kind of kills their leverage for Dwight, as they will no longer have the cap space to sign him outright in free agency. So the only way that Dwight can end up at the Nets is if the Magic willingly trade him there (unlike before when Howard had the option of simply signing with the Nets in free agency). Seems as though Orlando just got some leverage back in the situation.

That's exactly what I thought Ridders, it's weird but I guess we just have to see what happens!!! Maybe Dwight and Josh Smith to the Lakers lol

I think Dwight to the Lakers is dead. From all the reports I've read, Howard doesn't want to come to the Lakers and won't commit to re-signing long term. With that in mind, imo there's no way that the Lakers would give up Bynum for an un-committed Dwight.

Also the recent moves of the Hawks indicate that they're rebuilding by getting rid of all their bad contracts. I doubt they'd be willing to take on Pau, or his contract, in such a scenario.

That trade is horrible for the Magic imo, the players are average and the picks won't be that great, I'm not sure the Magic want to give Howard what he wants so maybe they just let him walk or if a team is willing to rent him they do that, who really knows anymore

Well unless the Lakers get confirmation that he'll re-sign...I don't know why they'd give up Bynum.

I hope they do get Dwight but surely they can't fit him in. Also their bench will be fairly crappy - one thing the heat has/had is guys like Miller, Haslem etc who took big cuts to be back ups.

The Mavs are in an interesting spot. They really banked on D-Will and Dwight...

Well only way Howard can join the Nets is through a trade as he cant sign there next off season as a free agent as they have no cap room any more. I think the Lakers will take the chance and get him for Bynum. I think if Dwight comes to LA he will change his tune, Lakers should call his bluff and take the risk as we would then be able to give him an extra year on his extension (More $$$) that other sides cant offer, i know its a big risk but im willing to do it.

From Lebrons facebook:
LeBron James

This looks damn good to me.

1. Miami
2. Brooklyn
3. Chicago

will be the top 3 seeds next season.

Ray-Wade-Battier-Lebron-Bosh is an unbeatable 5.

Add Chalmers and Haslem to that rotation. Throw in a Lebron without the shackles of pressure. We ain't gettin beat.

REPEAT.

Good for the Nets.

Their gambit with trading for Deron seems to have paid off. Risky trade at the time, but it seems to have been worth it.
