Yeah, don't see Rivers coming back to coach a rebuilding project. Probably means Ray Allen will be coming back and possibly Tony Allen. With their cap situation, re-signing their own free agents is pretty much their only option.

I can't believe this:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5344444

Richard Jefferson opts out of the final year of his contract. He was scheduled to make $15m next year and there is no way in hell he should get anywhere near that in free agency.

I honestly thought he would make a huge difference to the Spurs, being able to create his own shot unlike most of the other Spurs wings, but he regressed badly last year.

Good news for the Spurs I guess, but it doesn't aid their flexibility this summer.

Only thing I can think of is every player / player agent is terrified of the next CBA and are trying to tie in long term contracts this summer.

Makes sense for some, but I honestly can't comprehend any team signing Jefferson on a contract worth more than the MLE, and for 3 years max given his age and how bad he slipped last year. That would work out to be about equal to his $15m option for 2011 so unless he knows something, it would seem to be a strange move.

If Poppovich and /or Buford aren't on the phones to Mike Miller at 12.01 offering the MLE I'd be staggered. Dead-eye shooter, can create shots for others, terrific rebounder for his position, good guy who'll fit in with the Spurs, I don't see a lot of downsides. Not a terrific individual defender but you can live with that given everything else he brings.

Jefferson is crazy

And I agree Miller would be the perfect pick up for any contender. I love his game

Agreed, i couldnt believe it when i read that Jefferson had opted out but i think more players just want to tie in longer term deals but RJ will get nowhere near that money, not long to go now.

Wonder what that means for Darko?? With Al, Love and now Pekovic under contract (and a pretty reasonable contract too), surely they're not going to bother with him? Can't belive they'd look to trade Al and re-sign Darko but we'll see.

I think they will end up trading big Al, they can get solid pieces in other positions and this Pekovic guy is ready to play, Al is there best big man but sometimes teams need to make the tough decisions.

The talk is that he has been working out with Pop and that he is looking to secure a longer deal before the new CBA comes in, similar to what Dirk and Pierce have done.

Difference being that Dirk and Pierce are still quality players and will make back whatever they are forgoing in their final year. I mean how much is RJ expecting to make? 6 mill per? The only thing I can think of is that with so much money around, RJ is gambling on the fact that he can get some decent money, and as you said, long term security.

I mean when I heard that Tyson Chandler was considering opting out, that blew my mind.

Byron Scott has reached agreement on a three-year contract to become the Cleveland Cavaliers? new coach, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The deal is expected to be finalized on Thursday.

Negotiations between the Cavs and Scott picked up after Brian Shaw withdrew from consideration on Wednesday.

Shaw said he never received a formal offer from the Cavs, but didn?t feel comfortable with the team?s Thursday deadline to make a hire.

?I know they have a timeline to hire a coach and I wasn?t able to meet that timeline,? Shaw told Yahoo! Sports. ?I didn?t want to hold things up. It?s a great organization.?

RJ isn't worth that sort of money now, the Spurs need to get rid of a few players and bring in some youth, maybe RJ and Tony Parker should be traded i think.
