Man if the Magic can land CP3 that'd be the coup of the last 10 years imo. Forget Pau>Lakers...

Those two will be the most damaging 1-2 punch in the league...

Would be great for the Magic - but surely Hornets want more than Carter & Nelson?? Or would they just be happy to clear Okafor off the books and get something for Paul?

Hawks select a Euro stiff only to trade him to the Thunder. Funny draft for us - trade down to select a combo guard (insurance against JJ I guess) while passing on a couple of other guys that appear to be better and then sell the 31st pick - which could've netted a rotation player - not sure what to make of it.

Have also heard that the Wiz will offer Childress a contract. Hawks still hold his rights though and GM Sund has indicated they will extend an offer. Will depend on what sort of $$$ Wiz (or other teams) offer as to whether Hawks match, particularly if the Hawks re-sign JJ (which I don't expect them to, at least not for the max).

Good riddance to Sheed. f**k him for spending half his career at the top of the key when hes easily one of the best post players in the game.

Hornets have traded number 11 Aldrich and Mo Pete to the Thunder for the 21st and 26th picks. By trading Mo Pete, Hornets *should* be under the new cap so won't need to trade Paul or any other player. Get a couple of end of the bench players from the trade, Thunder meanwhile get two wing reserves (Cook and Peterson) and a decent big man back up (Aldrich) from trades in the past 48 hours, and a Clippers' future first rounder.

Sad to see Sheed go. Will his contract come off the Celtics payroll?

Like the Aldrich trade from both sides. Allows New Orleans to get under the luxury tax without giving up any of their key players (should be able to keep Cp3 now) and the Thunder get a nice shot blocking presence.

Gee the Bulls really are clearing the table for free agency with the proposed Hinrich deal. Doesn't really make sense for the Wizards, unless they do indeed find a way to move Arenas.

Was interesting to see Xavier Henry cry in his interview after getting drafted by Memphis. Couldn't tell whether he was crying because of the moment or because he was going to the Grizzlies..

Glad to see Houston get Patrick Patterson, great pick and I see him filling in the role that Landry use to play. If Yao can get back to good health I can see the rockets having a very good year.

Couple of potentailly very good picks by the Bucks.

Larry Sanders will eventually be a nice compliment to Bogut. 6'10, runs like a deer and almost a 7'7' wingspan

Darington Hobson is a very intriguing pick. 6'6' only spent one season at New Mexico after getting there the hard way. Does a little bit of everything, showed by him leading the Lobos in points, rebounds and assists.

Can't be serious lol...

I think Evans is going to be a great franchise calibre player (im talking a level just under Lebron, Wade, and Kobe) sure...I just don't think Cousins is going to be half the player shaq was when he was with Kobe. I've seen some highlights of his. Shaq would destroy him...Then again, a prime Shaq would have destroyed anyone...

Yeah I agree Evans is not going to be as good as Kobe and Cousins doesn't have the body to be as dominant as Shaq.

Was more making the comparison of how they could be the next great guard-big man combo.

Jefferson_Al_min.jpg

David Kahn admitted on Friday that he is exploring a trade of Al Jefferson and the likelihood of a trade increases if the Wolves re-sign Darko Milicic.

"It's the right time finally for us to explore this," Kahn said of a possible Jefferson trade. "I've met with Al and discussed this. If Darko comes back, there could be a need to create some playing time. We really need to get our front line settled."

http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi...es_admit_shopping_al_trade_impacted_by_darko/

Now I love Darko as much as the next man but the fact that he would have a significant impact on whether the T-Wolves will look to trade Big Al is amazing. Plus trading Jefferson now would be stupid since his stock is so low.

Agreed. Anyone think it's a coincidence that Darko again looked motivated and active when he needed a new contract? If he can show up to play every night, he does probably fit in better with Love than Al but still, strange choice.

Also read an article today about how the Knicks fall-back position if LeBron chooses not to sign there is Stoudemire & Johnson. I'm sure every Knick fan just peed their pants in excitement a little. Stoudemire on a max contract, ditto Johnson, Galinari, Rodriguez (if they bring him back) and Eddy Curry. What a starting 5!

Oh and just to make it official, Hawks have extended a qualifying offer to Childress, so we can match any offer he gets or potentially use him in a sign and trade (more likely scenario).

Whether we re-sign Johnson to a max or near-max contract will dictate whether we match for Chill.

Just thought I'd outline the major players in this year's FA:

Projected Salary Cap 2010/11 - $57.1m
Miami Heat
Projected Cap Space: $46.6m
Players Under Contract: Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers, James Jones
Needs: Everything but SG

New York Knicks
Projected Cap Space: $39.3m
Players Under Contract: Eddy Curry, Danilo Galinari, Wilson Chandler, Toney Douglas
Needs: Everything

New Jersey Nets
Projected Cap Space: $34.4m
Players Under Contract: Devin Harris, Brook Lopez, Yi Jianlian, Courtney Lee, Terrence Williams, Kris Humphries
Other Assets: rights to Derrick Favors and Damion James
Needs: PF, SG

Chicago Bulls
Projected Cap Space: $34.2m
Players Under Contract: Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, James Johnson
Needs: PF, SG

Los Angeles Clippers
Projected Cap Space: $23.6m
Players Under Contract: Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, Chris Kaman, DeAndre Jordan
Other Assets: rights to Al-Farouq Aminu & Eric Bledsoe
Needs: SF

Minnesota Timberwolves
Projected Cap Space: $21.4m
Players Under Contract: Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, Johnny Flynn, Martell Webster, Ramon Sessions, Corey Brewer, Ryan Hollins, Wayne Ellington
Other Assets: rights to Ricky Rubio, Wesley Johnson & Lazar Hayward
Needs: PG (kidding), SG, SF

Sacramento Kings
Projected Cap Space: $20.8m
Players Under Contract: Tyreke Evans, Samuel Dalembert, Beno Udrih, Francisco Garcia, Carl Landry, Jason Thompson, Omri Casspi, Donte Green
Other Assets: rights to DeMarcus Cousins
Needs: PG, SF

Oklahoma City Thunder
Projected Cap Space: $14.8m
Players Under Contract: Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Jeff Green, James Harden, Nick Collison, Nenad Krstic, Thabo Sefolosha, Daequan Cook, Eric Maynor, Serge Ibaka, Byron Mullens, DJ White, Kyle Weaver
Other Assets: rights to Cole Aldrich
Needs: SG, PF

Washington Wizards
Projected Cap Space: $8.1m - $18.9m
Players Under Contract: Gilbert Arenas, Andray Blatche, Al Thornton, Nick Young, JaVale McGee, Quinton Ross, Kirk Hinrich (based on trade going through)
Other Assets: rights to John Wall, Kevin Seraphin and Trevor Booker. Team Option on Josh Howard ($11.835m)
Needs: SG, SF

Milwaukee, Toronto, Memphis, Golden State and Atlanta all figure to have around $10m in cap space, depending in some cases on what they do with their own free agents (i.e. Joe Johnson with Atlanta). Some other teams will have minor cap space but not enough to pursue free agents.

On paper, the Bulls, Thunder and Clippers are the most attractive destinations, just with the players already on the roster. I'd like to include the Nets but they're coming off a 12 win season.

The Heat and Knicks are left with 3 and 4 players, respectively, under contract in the hope of landing 2 max players this summer (along with re-signing Dwyane Wade for the Heat). IMO, they're going to have a hard time convincing anybody to sign there, given what the Bulls and co have to offer (i.e. a shot at winning right now).

The Kings is potentially an intriguing choice. They're set at the 2-guard with Evans, Dally & Cousins present a strong front-line with fairly complementary skill-sets and Carl Landry is a top 6th man. If they can get a strong point and / or a decent SF, they could really trot out a quality team this year.

The Wolves still need a legit 2-guard but I doubt they're going to be capable of landing anyone of value in FA, and the Wiz might have up to $18.9m in space if they don't exercise Josh Howard's option. Again though, I'm not sure who would want to sign there.

Exactly 3 days to go!

Free agency is going to be nuts!

Have to like the Bulls position the best, mainly because their summer won't be totally dictated by whether they can sign a superstar like Lebron or Wade. Say they miss out on Lebron and Wade, but add Bosh and Joe Johnson. That gives them a starting 5 of Rose - Johnson - Deng - Bosh - Noah with Taj Gibson as a quality big of the bench. To me that is a great team. And if they CAN get Lebron then WOW.

Before the draft I'd assumed that Minny would offer Rudy Gay a near max deal but then they went and drafted/traded for 4 small forwards on draft night so that idea is probably dead.

Agreed, the Bulls don't have to make a splash, but they have that ability to target James or Wade, as well as being able to just sit back and take any one (or two) of the 8 or so quality free agents out there and immediately field one of the best starting 5s in the league. If I was running them, I'd simply target Bosh & Johnson from the get go and try to get them locked up straight away. Two things their current players can't do - score on the block or shoot the 3. I don't believe Johnson is worth a max (and if they sign him to a max they'll regret it in 5 years), but in years 1 and 2 they would be up there as favourites for the title so it would be worth it.

I really feel for the Knicks, I don't see any of the "big 3" going to NY, and I don't see any combination of the other free agents making a huge difference to their results going forward. They had to gut the roster, it's just a shame that both the Bulls and Heat have similar flexibility and offer better situations.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Thunder sit this one out, they're going to have a bit of cap space next year as well - they only have one guaranteed contract for 2011/12 (Sefolosha)! - although presumably extensions for both Durant & Green will be offered? Also, I think they've already got too many players under contract - forgot to include Mo Pete in my earlier list and I hear they're hoping their second round pick from the Hawks agreed to come over from Europe this year (Pleiss).

Ah the possible Durant extension reminds me of something I was thinking about earlier. Thunder are in an interesting position with him, where, unless I have this wrong, they have the option of offering him an extension either before or after the new CBA comes in. Now its presumed that the new CBA will lower the cap and probably the amount a max extension would be worth.

Durant will no doubt want an extension with the current CBA rules while the Thunder would be better of giving him a max extension under the new CBA conditions.
