Report: Johnson gets $119M offer

The Atlanta Hawks were prepared to offer free-agent-to-be Joe Johnson a maximum six-year contract when the Hawks and Johnson's representatives met Thursday morning in Los Angeles, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

Johnson's representatives were also scheduled to meet with the Knicks and Heat as well, but Johnson's first choice is to stay in Atlanta, a source told ESPN.

Yahoo! Sports reported that the Hawks offered a six-year, $119 million contract to Johnson in their meeting and that Johnson was prepared to accept the offer.

Armed with third-party intelligence that LeBron James considers Johnson a desirable potential sidekick, the Knicks booked a flight to meet the Atlanta free agent before traveling to Cleveland to meet with James on Thursday.
Johnson led the Hawks with 21.3 points per game.
Johnson's agent, Arn Tellem, told The Associated Press Wednesday night that Johnson has not been involved in any meetings with other free agents.

Tellem says he won't discuss hypothetical situations, including a possible max offer from the Hawks. "We'll see what they're willing to do," Tellem says.
Free agents could talk with any team after 12:01 a.m. ET Thursday. No deal can be signed until July 8.

This would worry me if I was a Hawks fan.

Heard a couple days ago the team were going to do this. Having thought about it, I'm hoping it's a move made purely to keep the club in a good light amongst their more casual fans, just to give the impression that we're doing all we can to keep him. I don't know one "hardcore" Hawks fans that would be impressed if he were to re-sign for the max, but if it happens, it happens. Word I'm hearing is he'll sign it.

Gay offered $80 over 5 years to stay at Memphis

Darko offered $20m over 4 years by Minny and Gooden offered $32m over 5 years by the Bucks, which would be his 9th team in 9 years. Am not sure Skiles and Gooden are a good fit. Am not sure Darko and any team is a good fit.

Provided that Gay accepts the contract, thats great news for him. Was only just last season that he was asking for a $13 mill per year extension from the Grizzlies, and they rejected him. Now he's earned himself an extra $3 mill per year, or $15 million all up.

Well done Grizzlies.

Agreed. Unbelievable by the Grizz. Thought he had a better year overall but he wasn't worth $13m last year. I still don't think he's worth $13m, let alone $16m.

Mike Miller has been offered a five-year, $30M contract by the Lakers, according to a report from Jeff Goodman.
Miller expects to be recruited by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade wherever they end up.
The Lakers have set a deadline of tonight to accept their offer.

I know Miller could make more money but if I am him I take less, join the Lakers and get some rings.

The Suns increased their offer to Channing Frye from $25M over five seasons to $30M, which was accepted. Frye had been holding out on accepting Phoenix's lesser offer under the hope a team with cap space would strikeout on their prime targets.
RealGM Note: Frye agreed to a $3.8M deal last summer with the Suns over two seasons with an opt out after the first.

25 mill was unders - 30 does seem fair for both parties.

Like that Frye deal. I wouldn't have minded had my Hawks made a similar offer to him, we could use a stretch 4. Although we desperately need help at the point.

And agreed on Miller, would be a great fit on that Lakers team. Surprised the Lakers haven't also moved on a point guard, with Brown, Fisher and Farmar all restricted or unrestricted free agents.

Gee it would be nice for LA to finally have a reliable sharp shooter on the team. I'm assuming that Fisher will be coming back but Farmar and Brown not so sure. I've read stuff about how Farmar wants to be able to start, and I don't see that happening for the Lakers.

From a Hawks perspective, man I hope that for some reason JJ doesn't accept the deal.

It's funny that at the next CBA agreement owners are going to be whining about how much they lose, while at the same time, they are handing out all these ridiculous contracts.

Not to mention Drew Gooden at $32 million over 5 years. NBA agents are raping and pillaging these NBA teams.

No wonder Amare feels that he deserves the max.

Steve Blake is now a Laker

The Lakers agreed to terms on a four-year, $16 million deal with veteran point guard Steve Blake on Friday, giving them a pass-first player with a decent three-point touch.

Blake made $4.25 million last season with the Clippers and Portland.

Blake, 30, averaged 6.8 points and 6.1 assists in 29 games with the Clippers while shooting a commendable 43.7% from three-point range.

In his seven-year career, Blake has averaged 7.5 points and 4.3 assists with Washington, Portland, Denver, Milwaukee and the Clippers.

Earlier Friday, a source close to Fisher said the 35-year-old veteran wanted at least a two-year deal worth at least $10 million. Fisher made $5 million last season and was an integral part of the Lakers’ championship run. Blake cannot officially sign with the Lakers until the free-agent moratorium ends July 8.

Apparantly according to ESPN Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade met up with Chicago officials and their respective agents this morning. With now Lebron putting Chicago last on his official sales pitch meetings as oppossed to Cleveland which is interesting.

They are of the belief all 3 may accept $12m each instead of the max to play together and with Derrick Rose and Noah at the Bulls with Deng traded to Miami.

Imagine that!

C - Noah
PF - Bosh
SF - James
SG - Wade
PG - Rose

I think I'm nursing a semi thinking about that starting 5 lol.
