Proposal, with a 49-51 "band" of revenue for players, will be on table until Weds. After that, NBA will propose 47% for players, Stern says

The players would be idiots not to accept this, this is the best offer they will get.

Stern says NBA adopted 5 of 6 suggestions of compromises by mediator, and would be "amenable" to making deal on that until Wednesday.

Stern says if no deal by Wednesday, he threatens 47 percent on BRI, a flex cap and worse.

Stern says that union attorney, Jeff Kessler, rejected the compromise deal.

Stern: "This offer will be on table until Wednesday, and then we will have another proposal..."

Stern on Wednesday deadline: "We want to allow enough time for union to consider most recent proposal, and we are hopeful they accept it."

How do you think it is as good as over? I think they made good progress today and I actually believe we will see a deal on Wednesday.

Once again, Stern has taken complete control of labor talks. With sense union is crumbling, he gives dropdead, take-it-or-leave it offer.

Players from the 2004 NHL lockout are saying to the NBA players it isn't worth skipping the whole season. I think there will be alot of pressure for the players to accept this deal, If they don't there will 0 sympathy for the players from the public and they will be hounded by the media.

Of course it isn't worth it. Average career is something like 4 years, if they throwaway one quarter of the average career to fight for 2%, it is the most illogical thing ever.

Stern has offered between 49% and 51% depending on total revenue, 51% ceiling for the players, 49% floor. If players don't accept by wednesday the offer lowers to 47%.

Derek Fisher has said the players have gone down to 51%...

The difference between the parties is now between 0 and 2% depending on how much revenue the NBA generates relative to the future projections.

Surely they have to go back to members and tell them to vote for this.

However:

Fisher says NBPA won't accept ultimatum. "That's not acceptable."

Fisher: At this point we don't have a deal to propose (to players that they would pass).

Here's how I predict things happening:
Union will not accept this deal.
Wednesday comes and goes.
Owners reduce their offer to 47%.
Players decertify the union. Attempt to fight the NBA via the courts.
In about 9 months the players accept 44%.

fmd, how greedy can these f**kwits get? Why won't the players just wipe the season whilst there at it.

It's not just the pure % of revenue that is the issue. Before they said they were willing to drop to 50% under the right system. But the owners are offering 51-49 and precisely the system the players don't want. The system that makes it harder for roleplayers to get their overpaid contracts.

The roleplayers control the union.

I heard a rumour saying Kobe wanted the players to accept 50/50 and a hard cap months ago. Understanble, because it looks like he'll be almost 35 by the next time we have a finals series.

Edit: This tweet says it all,

NBA Players appear to be standing at the corner of Fleeced Avenue and Blow-it-Up Boulevard. With a No U-Turn sign staring them in the face.
Either the players bend over and take it, or blow up the season and bend over and take in sometime in 2012, while not getting paid between now and then.

f**k I hate Fisher, why doesn't let the players vote? Do they not f**king realise it won't get any better then this? If they don't accept this deal they can say goodbye to the season over 1 f**king percent.

I'm not sure it's Fishers fault. I would presume he's in contact with a decent crosssection of players and knows if something won't have any chance of getting the votes.

And Twitter says some of the powerful player agents are pushing for decertification and the courts. If more players are leaning that way then Fisher is right and it would be a waste of time to bring this to vote.

Fisher, like Stern, is little more than a mouth piece. They have their instructions on what to give in on and what not to, thats why all these hours of negotiations have been useless.

I have no faith in the players ever accepting a deal, look what David West wrote a few days ago

"We have 100 dollars to split. U get 50, I get 50. You split your 50 between 30 guys. I split my 50 between 450 guys. Think about it."

f**king idiot. Whilst these players are there squabbling over a small percentage, there are people out of a job due to no season. Do these players understand that by not accepting this deal they will lose alot more money then what they are fighting over? If there is no season the NBA revenue will drop significantly and they will be fighting over a much less figure then 4 billion next time, and it will be all thanks to the dumb f**king NBPA.
