Stern: I would not read into this optimism or pessimism as we continue to negotiate.

Stern: Nothing was worked out today.

Stern: Our last position anticipated 50-50 so we've got lots of things to talk about.

Stern: League did not drop proposal back to 47 percent, won't do so until after current negotiating session ends.

Stern wouldn't deny progress had been made on system issues. "We're not failing, and we're not succeeding."

After finishing call with owners' labor relations committee, David Stern will deliver union a revised offer tonight, league sources tell Y!

Owners revised offer will be working off current negotiations with players -- not the threatened 'reset' offer awaiting if talks broke down.

Hope? ownership source says revised offer will give players "meaningful stuff" while staying at 50/50 BRI. Called talks "complicated."

Would expect union leadership will study proposal overnight, confer with players and meet with NBA again on Friday. No confirmation though.

NBA Will Play 72-Game Season If New Ultimatum Deal Accepted

David Stern and Adam Silver addressed the media following Thursday's bargaining session.

"We've had another couple of intense days," said Stern. "A couple hours ago, after Peter Holt and I were in touch with the labor relations committee, we made a revised proposal to the union to address their concerns as best we could."

Stern says they are looking to have a 72-game season with the first games beginning December 15th, if a deal is reached.

The clock on their offer will remain stopped until the player representatives have a chance to review it. If the deal is not accepted, the owners will revert back to their 47% offer.

Stern said that some players may not like the deal and that certain owners don't like the offer.

If the players accept the offer, the 2012 NBA Playoffs and Finals will be moved back one week, according to Silver.

"There comes a time where you are done negotiation and we are," said Stern.

"We await the response from the union. We've done our best," said Stern.

I just hope they reach a deal, already.
The sooner we have the NBA, the better.

The time will pass by quicker, as we wait for the NRL season to start, too.

Agree, but I don't just use as something to pass the time quicker, I love watching both equally, so the off-season is never bad for me, well this one is :(

I agree as well - I enjoy watching the NBA regardless of who is playing.
It just generally always helps when you have the EPL, NBA and NFL all on at the same time, and it makes that time pass quicker, whilst we wait for the NRL season.

Anyways the new deal proposed looks promising imo, I think the players will finally accept this deal.

How long before we start hearing reports of players going broke and begging for an agreement?

Already heard mixed messages on that. Derrick Williams basically tweeted that he's already broke. Andrew Bynum talked about saving for two years for this and he could last years.

In the end it only matters in which boat 50%+1 of the players are in.

Kessler is a f**king idiot.

Soon as that f**ktard got out of the room in the NFL labour dispute the players and owners had a deal in a week.

He is a divisive force who doesn't believe in the draft and just wants free agency and no cap so rich teams get richer, while poor teams get poorer. He is a f**king hypocrite.

Thank f**k that shits over. Hows MJ the clown, look up some of his quotes from the last lockout and compare them to his quotes from this lockout. Great player but a real douche off the court, suppose you can afford to be when your a baskeball god haha.

Cant wait for christmas now, santa is bringing nba basketball. Also I heard Chris Paul resquested a trade to the Knicks. Paul,Stat and Melo would be dope but i dont think the Knicks have the peices to trade.

Really hope Thunder try and get Howard, they can offer one of the best deals for him imo.

Provided they could get Westbrook to sign an extension, I agree. The question is more whether Dwight would want to play there. The only way someone trades for Dwight is if he agrees to do a Melo-like extension post-trade.

NBA resume with Christmas blockbuster

THE NBA will make a blockbuster return with five matches to open the lockout-hit season on Christmas Day - including a finals rematch in Dallas.

For the first time since the shortened 1998-99 season, the NBA champion from last year will face the runner-up team on opening day with Miami to visit the reigning champion Mavericks.

Dallas are expected to raise their championship banner before the game.

"I think everybody did it on purpose. But, you know, whatever for the ratings, right?" Miami's Chris Bosh said.

"I use it as motivation. I know they're going to be pumped up. It's the worst time to be at home for me. But everything happens for a reason, so we're going to have to watch it, take it all in and just use that as fuel for the rest of the season."

Dallas beat the Heat in six games in last season's finals, winning the championship at Miami.

With the lockout of the players by the owners partially lifted and the new collective bargaining agreement likely to be completed in the next week, the NBA announced the opening games for its abbreviated 66-game schedule.

The contests begin with the Boston Celtics visiting the New York Knicks, followed by the NBA finals rematch between the Heat and the Mavericks. The Bulls and Lakers will square off later in Los Angeles.

There were three games originally scheduled for Christmas Day but with the compressed 66-game schedule the league decided to add two more games, comprising the Oklahoma City Thunder hosting the Orlando Magic and the Golden State Warriors playing the visiting Los Angeles Clippers.
