Pretty smart PR move by Stern and the owners. Up until now, I'd say the public's reactions have been somewhat mixed as to who's to blame for the lockout. However if the players reject the deal on the table, their going to get bashed from all ends.

Poll says 76% of americans aren't missing the NBA. If the players don't wake up, then even if they got their 51% it's going to become worth less than 47% is now if they lose a season and the public loses longterm interest in the NBA.

The owners fear the player reps meeting in NYC Tuesday will push for approval of the deal. David Stern was not on the conference call..

Pretty interesting reading to his twitter feed.

According to him, some owners would actually prefer it if the players rejected the deal, so that they can really go to town on them in regards to the BRI split.

Insightful article on Derek Fisher and his role as President. I was surprised to know his job, and all the hours that go with it, is completely unpaid (infact, it's costing money out of his pocket).

Edit:
Also found this pretty good lockout updates page:

Couple of interesting recent updates-

At the Salt Lake City charity game last night, several players weighed in to the Salt Lake Tribune. Jeremy Evans says take "whatever is given" and get a deal. Devin Harris sounds much more like a decertification guy talking about "tough decisions" but that could be the deal as well, and Derrick Favors has not paid attention to anything regarding the talks. So glad he gets a vote.

Anthony Tolliver of the Timberwolves, a players' rep who will attend Tuesday's NBPA meeting told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that "pretty much everything is split" when it comes to the players between decertification and voting to approve the deal as is

Saw it coming from a mile away. And I was reading some NBA writers twitter feed and the season is essentially over because they can't agree on certain exceptions and sign and trade things that have been used less than 5 times in the last 5 years. Why EITHER party would care enough about those things to kill the season is beyond me.

Also, word is the hardline owners faction led by MJ was actually hoping the players would turn down this 50/50 deal offered to them, they were genuinely mad at Stern for offering even that much and wanted the players to decline so they could go down to their preffered 47% offer.

That's the problem in a negotiation where both sides think they've given too much. Now they're going to lose a multiple of what they were fighting over.

Btw, the players have come down to 50/50, they're not even arguing about money anymore ffs. That's how frustrating this is.

The NBA and NBPA have made significant progress Wednesday night toward reaching a deal, two sources briefed on talks told Y! Sports.

One pessimistic GM told me he hears that good progress is being made...still, he's only cautiously optimistic

As night rolls on, my optimism on NBA deal being struck wanes. If they're grinding at this point, it's because fundamental divide remains.

Growing optimism in the agent and front-office community that a deal will get done. One person briefed on talks "incredibly optimistic."

Optimism Growing That CBA Deal Is Close

Nov 09, 2011 10:57 PM EST

Optimism grew late in the night on Wednesday as the NBPA and NBA continued another long bargaining session and word leaked out that the two sides may be getting nearer to an agreement.

One person briefed on the discussions described himself as "incredibly optimistic" that a deal will soon be done.

Wednesday at 5 p.m. EST was supposed to be the deadline, after which the NBA would issue a "reset" proposal to the union that would contain a smaller share of BRI for the players and far more restraints on their player contracts and free agency.

But as the hours have gone by, and the deadline passed, it is believed that the two sides have remained engaged on re-working the so-called 'system' issues that were part of the NBA's take-it-or-leave-it offer of last Friday.

The union came into Wednesday's meeting finally ready to reduce the players' share to 50 percent, the number that the NBA had been pushing for a number of weeks. In exchange, the players are seeking a more favorable system before an agreement is reached with the owners.
