There will be a media conference at CA offices in Jolimont, Melbourne at 1pm (AEDT) TODAY to announce the new Australia men’s team Head Coach, a newly created position in Australian cricket as recommended by the Australian Team Performance Review in August this year.

Dear god let it be Mickey Arthur.

It needs to be someone seperate from those who've been in and around the team.

Therefore, it'll be Justin Langer or someone equally ridiculous.

not sold on Mickey Arthur either, would prefer Boof but his coaching record is pretty short, prolly needs a few more years at first class level

f**k I'd take Langer over Arthur. Not only will Johnson never be dropped, but Beer will be back in the side and North will be sniffing around the fringes again.

Rixon or f**k off.

Steve Rixon is the man we need. We don't need an import and if Langer gets the job we might aswell just give up.

I'll be royally pissed off if a South African is coaching our national cricket team.

Cricket Australia is set to name the South African Mickey Arthur as the Australian team's new head coach at a media conference this afternoon.
The former Proteas mentor, who is presently in charge of Western Australia, has been considered among the two frontrunners for the past week.
It is understood he has been given the nod over the other lead candidate, Steve Rixon, who is on the Australian team staff as fielding coach.

Arthur, who will also be on the five-man selection panel, was the South Africa national coach between 2005 and 2010.
Other applicants for the job included Tom Moody and Justin Langer.
The media conference to announce the new coach will be held in Melbourne at 1.15pm.

I'd probably be ok with it if the South African's name was Gary Kirsten, or was a Southern African named Andy Flower, but Arthur looks to be a Verbeek. A foreign coach for the sake of having a foreign coach. If he gets the nod it really will reek of 'look how enlightened and professional we are, we signed a foreign coach' rather than selecting the best man for the job. Rixon has much better credentials and obviously a deeper understanding of the game in Australia.

The selection of the A team, Pat Howard's appointment and some of the talk re Ponting, Johnson et al haven't inspired me that the old days of mediocrity that Argus was supposed to have ended aren't alive and well. Arthur's appointment would be another bad sign I reckon.

That's a disgrace and a f**king joke.

Might aswell just starting importing some yarpie merkins to play for us too.

That Kiwi who coaches the Wobblies aswell. We have Lehmann, Moody, Rixon and I'm not sure what Trevor Bayliss is doing these days but he'd be a good candidate. I'd rather see the liks of Jamie Siddons or Matthew Mott pushed through than Arthur.

Australian cricket will fall off worse than it did in the 1980's

Boom. Great decision CA.

One of the best coaches in the world. Not a CA sycophant. Not one of the boys.

The light at the end of the tunnel for cricket in this country has officially been switched back on.
