In regards to the comment re standing end, this is a great idea. Many people do enjoy standing at a RL game and if done right does add to the atmosphere. Warrington built a cheapish stadium with one side covered terrace standing and everyone raves about it a s agood mix between old and new.

Geez, doesn't that shot with Olympic Park in the background really highlight just how sh*tty OP is?

Thanks for posting up the pictures EF, the place is looking fantastic. Though the bottom level seems smaller than I anticipated. does seem like every seat in the place is going to have a prime view.

Oh definitely, my point is though that in NSW sport has always been seen as a nuisance. A distraction for uneducated bogans and hooligans.
In Victoria it is seen as a vital cog in the social and cultural lifeblood of the community. Why is the MCG the world class facility that it is?
Because the Vic Govt have poured millions into it because they feel it is a jewel in the crown of public infrastructure. They feel that football is as important to people as
the poeple feel it themselves.
What has NSW done that is similar?
You can't help but think that NSW governments despise their people for wanting basic services and infrastructure.

Exactly. And the big problem for the Public is that Labor are woeful and the Liberals just as pathetic. So who do we vote for? Both sides couldn't give a sh!t about the public. Ideally, disolve NSW and let the feds and local governments pick up the slack. I am sure they would do a much better job.
I hate our state Parliament...

They should so level olympic park when its done. Horrible little ground, not even fit for high school athletics.

OP is going to be knocked down as soon as it can be, it's the site of Collingwood's MCG-sized oval training ground which will have terraces for junior championships etc...

Can't wait until I get my botty on one of those seats next year.

Now Ch. Nein in Melbourne is going to have to make a HUGE decision, will they dare to broadcast the 1st Storm home game at the new stadium live against the afl?????????:p

I had heard somewhere that this had been put on the backburner... Athletics Victoria are being shifted somewhere else (I think its the Swans old ground), but this isn't set in stone yet.

There is also a movement calling for protection of OP... who know why though, the place is a dump. Nice big training field for the footballs would be much more apropriate.

The one on the right looks a bit like a cow shed.

Wow the storms new homeground looks awesome why on earth cant there be anything like that in Sydney?? oh thats right because of the useless government.

So is it official that League will open the stadium? and if so will it be the Storm? cause i swear i read somewhere the other day that the Anzac test was going to be the first game at the stadium.

I've changed jobs and now work on the other side of the city so no more going past MRS on the train. Can't wait to see what it looks like the next time I drive past... whenever that might be!

Melbourne Rectangular Stadium is it's current name on the MOPT website, although the fly-throughs and some media have used the term Olympic Park Stadium.

I imagine if there are naming rights available an announcement would be made sometime early in 2010.

Victory fans are refering to it as Swan Street (which I like, despite that part of Swan St actually being renamed).

However, MOPT are currently approaching companies about naming rights, so a corporate name is almost 100% certain.
