New Metallica.. finally

Who cares if it sounds a little more polished? I'm sure if today's sound technology was available to them in the 80's they'd have utilised it then as well.

Anything that gets close to their thrash roots I'll be happy with (as long as the songwriting is solid.) While they were good in their own right, Metallica, Load and ReLoad were a significant deviation from their glory years. Nothing will compare to Lightning/Puppets/Justice, but anything gets close is still pretty f**king good.

This is one of their best songs since the 80's ended.

I quite liked DM and St.Anger too. St.Anger made a lot more sense if you watched that painful documentary that coincided with it.

Lulu wasn't bad. It's certainly an aquired taste. Lou Reed is a gibbering fool, but the Metallica parts are pretty tight. Dragon is the only track that really stands out. the rest just have really f**king weird lyrics.

Furthermore, if you hated SA, DM and Lulu, go and listen to We Did It Again with Swiss Beatz (or however the f**k it's misspelt) and appreciate that more of that shit didn't happen instead.

It was done without James' consent as he was in rehab at the time.

It was a Bob Rock idea

Lightning and Puppets were my favourites.

But as I said, nothing personal against Newsted. He was good and had his place in their successes. They were proper merkins to him for a while there.

Bob Rock can get f**ked though.

Lightning justice and load are mine so bob rock features slightly there.

I can't say I really get the puppets hype, although battery is probably my favourite song of theirs.

Lighting is my favourite album by a fair stretch. Then its a close second between Kill Em All, Puppets, Justice and DM

I'm hoping for multiple great riffs per song like the old albums.

The way a master of puppets or fade to Black build with multiple riffs and lead guitar

It's what separates Metallica IMO from every one else.

Wow, interesting. Everything on that album is close to perfect for me. The culmination of what they had done beforehand combined into one album.

Music is good like that, you connect to what you connect to even within a particular bands catalogue.

I am a really big death magnetic fan too

Some cracker tracks on there!!

Nah

There is plenty of good stuff on DM mate, a few songs wouldn't be out of place on justice

People keep saying this, comparing it to AJFA. But.. while it might be stylistically similar, and it is a good (good, not great, not bad) album, AJAF is an outstanding almost-perfect album. The best song on DM is not as good as the worst song on AJAF.

For me the bar for new Metallica is what Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Testament, Overkill are putting out. Not old Metallica, and not new bands like Vektor, because a group of rich 50 year olds just aren't gonna match that.
Hardwired is good, nice energy and riff, fun but not original, geniused lyrics.

Thrash fans there's been some good stuff this year - Anthrax, Megadeth, Destroyer666, Septagon, Vektor, Destruction, Death Angel, Desaster, Nervosa, Revocation, Sodom,Vektor,Vektor,Vektor,Vektor,Vektor,Vektor,Vektor,Vektor,Vektor,...
And more to come - Overkill and Testament at least, aside from Metallica

Strongly, strongly disagree.

Each to their own though

For what its worth, 'All Nightmare Long' is my favourite song on DM, and I don't think it's as good as Harvester of Sorrow, my least favourite on Justice
