Surely saints will be affiliated with south coast tho.

That said, does have a very nrc feel to it.

if a fringe first grader goes back to this "nsw platinum league" then his first grade coach wouldn't really have any say in which position he plays in. i really hate this idea, but these country areas and pacific islands would still benefit if it was a 3rd grade comp

The irony of that post is Gould is speaking about the Roosters development of teens who will be lost to the game under the new proposed rules, not poaching of established players/juniors from other NRL clubs.

It's always good idea to read what you're quoting...

Works every time. :lol::lol:

Just bring up the Roosters lack of Jnr development to a Roosters fan and they loose their shit.

So with 11 platinum teams, does that mean that each of the nsw teams are given a region each?
Hunter- knights
Canberra/sth west- raiders
Illawarra/sth coast- dragons
Central sydney- rabbitohs
Canterbury/st george/ Sutherland- Bulldogs (this one might be controversial)
Northern beaches/central coast- Eagles
Parramatta- eels
Penrith- panthers
Liverpool- MacArthur- Tigers
New England- sharks
Central and west- roosters

If it means fringe-first graders/squad players go to these regions to play with up and coming players from that region, while also letting teams keep their current junior set-ups it might not be that bad
It might be a way to have a true reserve grade (for the 11 nsw clubs at least), while also providing a pathway to the nrl for players from all regions in new South Wales.
If the nrl squad gets increases to 30 players, that means that depending on suspension or injuries , there'll be upto 13 players a week available for platinum clubs each week, with the remaining players coming from that region and out of their $400k salary cap

The two contreversual ones are

Northern Beaches / Central Coast
Canterbury / Cronulla

Sorry dont support their mergers ar junior level

But like the idea of NSWRL and CRL being merged

Like the idea of Western Division and North Coast being added

i would rather they had this comp as the 3rd grade comp (ron massey cup) and for the 2nd grade/reserve grade comp, they just had the nrl clubs

Agree National RG will now become critical

Clubs will have players 18-30 who need to be playing in a aligned NRL game plan

Sounds like First steps to an Independent 2nd tier funded by the NRL and leading to a draft. They are effectively Taking second tier away from the NRL/ league clubs. Might not be a bad thing in long run.

Cant see this working as every NRL club in.NSW is technically a District club

From U8s all they way through to NRL FG

Clubs like Wenty, Mt Pritchard are really only district A grade clubs and you cant ask one of them to run Parramata district RG grade through to U8s

Its clear this team will be badged Parramatta just as it is today

Now why should a Leagues club like Souths juniors pay for junior registrations and gear of U18 to U6 players throughout its district ?

There will be some pushback on the role JRL district clubs

All that work for what? It sounds like a retraction, not expansion. It looks like a cost cutting measure, but then the NRL cap is increasing to compensate anyway.

Parramatta, Penrith, and Manly etc. will have their own 2nd tier regional feeder team.. but Bulldogs, St George, and Cronulla all share a team?

If this format was already in place, what's to stop a situation like this from happening?:
-

pretty sure under this proposal, if it were to eventuate which I can't see happening, Mary would be coaching Illawarra and not the combined southern sydney side :D

but yeah to make this a reality somewhat all they need to do is revamp the NSW Cup a bit, we already have the Knights (Hunter), Illawarra, Newtown, Norths (central Sydney), Bulldogs, Wyong (CC) so all you'd need is to bring back St George (stand alone, not SGI) and Cronulla, form a three way with the Dogs (ummm, maybe not!) and remove Wests Tigers to bring back Wests on their own for Liverpool-Macarthur. To make the comp more interesting and less likely to die out, don't do the three way merge, have Cronulla, Saints, Dogs on their own and Newtown, Balmain, Easts, Souths and Norths as 'central sydney', as long as players are going around and if clubs are willing to operate without an NRL equivalent, like Wyong did in 2013-14

f**king stupid idea. Even the team allocations are dumb - Canterbury with Illawarra and Cronulla? Lol what moron dreamed that up....

and 'Central and Far West' should be 2 seperate teams.
And how come Parramatta, Penrith and Liverpool are seperate of Central and Far West.

Also, one of the best aspects of NSW Cup is seeing games like Newtown v North Sydney.
Newtown are the only team in the comp that get real support, there's no way they can be killed off at that level. If this goes through crowds in general will drop because fans won't have an attachment to any team. Crowds in NSW Cup are already poor and efforts should be made to increase them, not run them into the ground.

^ I'm guessing central and far west means central and far west NSW , not central and far West sydney.

I like the idea of what they are going for, not sure they've nailed it and some tweaking will need to be made, but if this is the first step towards the NRL controlling pathways and introduction of a better salary cap and draft, then I'm in

They are talking about Central and Far West NSW (Dubbo etc) not Sydney
