So you Roosters supporters are upset and hate the proposal?

Could it be that this proposal will kill your club long term and thats why your all in a up roar.

Club like Roosters can't survive long term under this proposal
Phil Gould AM added,

Interesting,

Roosters might have to start developing some players of there own instead of poaching from all the development clubs. ;-)

But in all seriousness it does not look like a good proposal.

Works every time. :lol::lol:

Just bring up the Roosters lack of Jnr development to a Roosters fan and they loose their shit.

There won't be any 'development clubs' if this gets up you simpleton.

If they want to take over pathways they need to show a plan that does that and how it is funded. Maybe the final plan will include this but based on Gus's and the Clubs reaction it doesnt seem to deal with it at all.

I would think you are looking at 50-60 million a year if you take all development off the clubs and want to do it properly. If they plan to fund it by reducing club grants then you would think some clubs who currently don't fund anything will really feel the impact. I supposed they could get a bit of TV money for the comp if it's not included in the current deal.

Doesn't St George contribute over a mil a year to juniors with 2 mattys cups, sg balls, plus the cutters and what ever else? Only for our best juniors to go elsewhere when someone offers them more money.

This way the NRL pays for development and stops NRL clubs signing kids at 13 with managers.

I prefer to see their whole strategy in regards to this second tier competition before criticizing it.

The argument from Gus and clubs like Penrith, Paramatta and Canberra who produce a lot of juniors is that they spend a lot of money on player development but get no ROI from how much they spend.

Well from what Fat Richo is doing is trying make sure clubs are spending less on development with the NRL managing a percentage of that end and that eases financial burden on clubs who say they're losing money annually on development.

I would love to see the NRL introduce a Draft, yes the argument is you don't get an Adam Reynolds or Darren Lockyer grow up in their area and play for their childhood club but how many do anyway? Players are switching clubs all the time. Jonathon Thurston started at Canterbury but will always be a North Queensland legend and no one gives two sh!ts about how he got there, just that he delivers wins and premierships.

Parramatta and Penrith both great junior development teams are still spending money on other players developed elsewhere to win. Foran and Trent Merrin for example this past off-season.

That'll f**king do me.

Sack them all.

This is beyond a jok now.

The game is run by compete f**king idiots.

Anyone who defends them in any way from now on needs to end themselves.

Lol. People should kill themselves because they agree with a sporting organisations decision. f**k you're delusional. And you sound like you're half way there.

There is talk that Grant is going to spend a $100 Million per year on development when the new deal comes in 2018, although this figure will obviously need to include QLD, NZ and I would like to seem them with a defined plan to spend some $$$ on PNG and the Islands as well.

The NRL Revenue will be over $500 Million a year by then, so that amount seems feasible....

Unfortunately I've got a feeling that the clubs will still want the same amount of money even if there is no expectation on them to develop players..

I would like to see the full proposal though like others have mentioned before deciding one way or the other..

That fat merkin Shane Richardson. This is his brain child.

His supposed whole of game strategic review had its wings clipped because they are too scared to expand. So it has turned into this reshuffling the deck chairs exercise.

His quotes from the start of the year were all positive about growth. Then it got really quiet.

Now why should a Leagues club like Souths juniors pay for junior registrations and gear of U18 to U6 players throughout its district ?

There will be some pushback on the role JRL district clubs

Clubs making millions of dollars a year off poker machines are obliged to put some of that money back into the local community aren't they?

The current pathway to the nrl in new south Wales is
Juniors- HM cup- SG ball- NYC cup- Nsw cup- nrl
If you live in the country you have to move to the city at a young age.
The problems that the platinum league will face is that merging st george/Sutherland/canterbury means that cronulla might lose their area (assuming the bulldogs receive this area and dragons are given the illawarra/south coast area) but then cronulla will be given new England or central/west new south Wales. Also there needs to be a replacement for the NYC. Maybe it's kept, maybe it's expanded to under 21 or under 23s.
So depending on what replaces the NYC the new pathway to the nrl will be
Juniors- HM cup- SG ball- NYC replacement- platinum league club assigned to your nrl club ( this team looks like it will include players from that clubs lower grades, players from that clubs nrl squad who aren't in first grade, and players from the local area that the platinum club represent)- nrl.
This will be a big boost to bush football. Young guys can now stay and play in their local leagues for longer, because their is a pathway to the nrl no matter where in new south Wales you are playing.

Could have entered a team or two in NSW Cup too boost bush football without ripping the whole thing down.

eg.

Raiders Reserve - based in Canberra not Mounties/ covers Southern NSW
Newcastle Reserve
Bulldogs Reserve
St George / Illawarra Cutters
Manly Reserve
Cronulla / Newtown Jets
Souths / Norths Bears
Penrith Reserve
Parra / Wentworthville Magpies
Wests Reserve
Roosters / Wyong Roos
New Zealand Reserve

12 current teams

add
Dubbo - represents Western NSW
Coffs - represents Northern NSW
WA Pirates
Fiji

for 16 teams. Piece of piss...

But in that, kids from dubbo and coffs still don't have a direct pathway into the nrl. They will still have to move to an nrl clubs system if they hope to play nrl. And the current nsw cup system isn't permanent. Meaning that while roosters have an agreement with wyong for now, they can back out anytime they want, they may switch their focus to dubbo and leave wyong and it's area stranded and without a way to the nrl for their juniors.
Try to have a long term look at this. Every area in new south Wales will have a permanent and direct route to the nrl. Every area will have an nrl club that relies in that area being strong long term. It may be in roosters interest for wyong to have a strong junior base, but if wyong failed then roosters can just pull out and make a deal with another area and leave wyong stranded. Under this proposal, nrl clubs will be given an area permanently, and if those areas fail then there's simply no pulling out.

Bringing in NSW Country divisions into the current 9 round Matts & SG Ball NSWRL structure is a no brainer

And clubs should be able to sign 10 players from their district

Then National U20s and National RG is the way to go

Then we can have a 14 team NSW Cup without NRL clubs

Dream all you like, but the NRL Players Association have said they would oppose a draft. As such it has 0% chance of being introduced cause it would last as long as it would take for someone to get it thrown out in court as a restraint of trade.

It only happens in the AFL (before it is brought up) because the AFL Players Association agreed in their Collective Bargaining Agreement with the AFL to not go to court over it.

Response from the NSWRL

Pathway Concerns
Tue 1st December, 09:00AM

: NSWRL Grand Final day - VB NSW Cup grand final match between the Wyong Roos and the Newcastle Knights at Pirtek Stadium on September 27, 2015 in Sydney, Australia. Digital Image by Mark Nolan.

CUP'S RUNNETH OVER: The management of the NSWRL and the CRL, as well as clubs, have expressed concern at plans presented to the ARL Commission that would influence the structure of second-tier rugby league.
A special sub-committee appointed by the NSWRL Board and Clubs to provide input into pathways proposals met yesterday.

The committee expressed concern at many aspects of a proposal that NRL Head of Strategy Shane Richardson presented to the ARL Commission in October and which they believe has subsequently been approved in principle.

These concerns are shared by the NSWRL Board, Clubs and the CRL, with the NSWRL and the CRL requesting an urgent meeting with Richardson prior to any further progress reports being provided to the Commission.

Sub-committee Chairman Bob Millward has invited Richardson to the group's next meeting in mid-December.

The AFL tried this. Guess what. Pretty much all the clubs have their own 2nd tier club now.

The coaches hated it on both sides. The afl coaches lost control of their players, how they were used, where they played etc etc. the 2nd tier coaches hated it because they got the players on game day, had no control of the team they were trying to coach etc etc.

It won't work in the NRL either for the same reasons. the NRL clubs need a way to control their players, what system they play in, position they play, etc etc.

If the NRL want to control the development of players, take over and fund everything up to and including U18s. Lean on the NSWRL and QRL to allow standalone NRL reserves teams or exclusive agreements between an NRL team and exisiting unaffiliated teams.

But couldn't you align say the North Coast team with the Warriors who then can have a mix of there reserve grade players and some of the North Coast players. To a lesser extent Fiji could do similar with another area like New England although not a direct pathway to the NRL, you would be playing in a pretty flamboyant team which should hopefully draw some attention to yourself. It really comes down to how they could break it down properly. It helps areas like Fiji not to wear the entire cost of supporting the team.

f**king stupid idea. Even the team allocations are dumb - Canterbury with Illawarra and Cronulla? Lol what moron dreamed that up....

and 'Central and Far West' should be 2 seperate teams.
And how come Parramatta, Penrith and Liverpool are seperate of Central and Far West.

Also, one of the best aspects of NSW Cup is seeing games like Newtown v North Sydney.
Newtown are the only team in the comp that get real support, there's no way they can be killed off at that level. If this goes through crowds in general will drop because fans won't have an attachment to any team. Crowds in NSW Cup are already poor and efforts should be made to increase them, not run them into the ground.
Best crowds int the lower grades also, and the best afternoons you can spend at the footy at that level (and for $10 bucks and a retro feel, it's pretty great in general).

I think what they're aiming for can be done without ripping the current NSW Cup to shreds. No one is oging to give a f**k about a bunch of randomly allocated clubs. And as pointed out, this has already failed in the VFL.

Don't like this much - although maybe that's selfish with my own clubs interest

works fine in the Qld Cup.
