Went to The Footy Show Tonight and got to talk to Andrew Voss on our way out and I told him I was new on a Rugby League Forum and a lot of people there were interested to see the new version of the show. He was less than complimentary about forum readers etc.

Wrote a detailed recollection of our conversation and deleted it! I'd rather be positive about the footy starting tomorrow night.

The gossip genes I have in me would love to hear what he said, but you are probably right - admire you for wanting to be positive about the game in this dark hour.

Sad to hear. I admire Voss as one of the code's better presenters. I know forums tend to live in the land of the sensationalist and tangent running. I have also seen Sunday Roast - which is the same as here except for the computer.

Respect the fans, Vossy. Even numbskulls like Cloud 9 and Chucky Saab!

This is no different to the pub I used to go to on Thursday nights (the Marine Bar in Liverpool) in the 1970's which was basically a place where we'd all go to discuss the Footy.

Everyone here had someone there they were just like...

Like most journos, Vossy probably thinks that only the media are allowed to voice their opinions and the punters should just think what we're told.

I think a guy like Vossy can get a bit arrogant, but it`s fair enough. He`s a sharp mind, and he knows that he`s got no hidden agendas or favourites other than the truth and the good of the game. Remember guys he was the one who last year on this very show was giving it to Gallop about how on earth a media company can own the NRL. While Fatty was licking Gallop`s arse. Voss may not be a crowdpleaser, but he is quality.

If anyone, including Gallop, Voss or the Pope wanted to find a cross-section of Rugby League fans in Australia, this forum is perfect. And this isn't the only one, just the best one.

Blokes like Voss should live here but I reckon he believes he's above it.

With all due respect to my fellow forumers, most of what goes on in forums is childish babbling, whinging and anonymous name-calling.

Intelligent, constructive discussion is definitely in the minority. It is completely understandable for "outsiders" to perceive forum users as footy nerds and tragics. A lot of forum users I've met are exactly that. A lot of forum users with thousands of posts (notice i'm not excluding myself from this) are completely incapable of socialising with their fellow human beings in traditional ways. Some of us can.

One thing that can't be questioned however is the passion that people on this forum have for the game. That is an invaluable thing.

Against my better judgement, I watched the Fotty showlast night.

After Fatty's hypocritical rant was done, it was interesting having Russell Crowe put his thoughts and suggestions forward. It would have been far better if Voss had just shut up, stopped interjecting and auditioning for a comedy spot in Crowe's next movie.

It's also ridiculous having tut-tut commentary on binge drinking from Matt Johns (Reg Reagan) and Vautin - note his 30 schooners comment and getting his wife to act as a taxi.

David Gallop, as ever, was a boring, non-event News Limited employee still pretending that he is more rugby league than a caretaker for Rupert.

gotta agree with you, depsite all the 'outrage' from players like fatty and johns about problems players have gotten themselves into they basically just go back to where we've been in the past few years with stupid comments.

crowe surprised me with some of his thoughts, i thought he wouldnt be able to say anything without a script, and some of his ideas whilst i dont agree with (like SOO at the end) have been thought through.

i watched most of it and one p[ositive is they did talk about foorty which was a pelasant change

As I posted in the footy show thread, he didn't shut up all night and was owned by both Crowe and Benji. Why he would think he's above an on-line forum contributor has me buggered, unless he's talking about Locky#1, Monk or St.Brett.
He has no claim to fame, so f**k him and his attitude.

The fact is he doesnt have anything on the lay supporter except he sits in a box and calls the game. He hasnt played the game at the top level and that brings him back to the field.
