New rule

Every club for themselves. We are the only ones that will sorry for ourselves. And although it can be rationalised and proven we will be getting no favours from anyone. I'm just waiting for fallout when the good teams play and cop the same inconsistencies as we are, and heaven forbid lose a match.

In terms of the new head protection rules I only saw Vaughan go 'high' and that was a accident, and a joke. That's credit to the team for addressing tackling style. Don't even know what Kerr and Poasa were reported for?

Was satisfied with Hook calling it out as confusing in the presser. Last week the one on Ramsey was a send off but it really is about who gets hit and by whom and when, not how.

There is too many gradings and choices for the MRC anyway which open it up more for inconsistency and differing interpretations after supposedly reviewing previous charges and video footage for comparisons.
It just comes down to which footage they choose, depending on which player it is and whether the media are outraged and carry on if a player is HIA'd or dub an incident down as a complete accident..nothing in it..blah blah.

So after last week, I though the new rules where

* high shot intentional or causes significant damage then its a send off
* high shot minor hit 10 minutes

Watching the game tonight I'm lost.

Cody - swinging arm, attacker did not fall, contact with head, no other facts affecting defender and only 10 minutes.
Burns - wrong footed Dugan, hard contact to the head was correctly 10 minutes.
Vaughn - player falling, preparation by vaughn was below head tackle - 10 minutes in bin.

honestly, the NRL need to come out and specify the rule including the criteria used to evaluate a high shot and the determination process. The refs are making it up as they go.

Is it the refs or the bunker making the calls? That is what is confusing as in the Magic round the refs seemed to be making the right calls only to be overturned. It is like they have 1 set of rules for the game and the bunker has other rules .

Refs call real time and have a feel for the gameand often make the correct call. The bunker looks at slow motion and pick and chooses what to pass on to the ref. E.g Kafusi case. I am sure if that replay was shown many times he would have had some time in the bin but it was only looked at once. The ref then has no option but to go with the bunker as he has showed many replays to influence the audience to some how try and justify his decision. Plus how can the ref then over rule the bunker? He can't, so the bunker has more control than the ref which is where the problem lies.

Those slow motion replays should be used when they review games and make charges after the round is done, not during a game. If there is a serious enough hit on a player, I am sure a ref will see it or a touch judge. Bunker should only be used for grounding and Captains challenge. Simple. If it is later found that the ref missed a serious foul play at the end of the round, then he should be stood down for a week.

The rules = do not make contact with the head.

Result = No penalties, no sin bins or send offs. Unfortunately as with any rule/directive implementation there will always be inconsistencies.

Had Cody lay down & play dead as soon as he hit the turf, the tackler would have been sent. Dugan should have been sent IMO.

Let me get this right. If a player goes of for a HIA as a result of a tackle around the head and fails the test he doesn't come back on. The culprit either gets 10 mins in the bin or is penalised. Doesn't seem fair somehow.
It's great if your team has 13 on 12 but not so good the other way. But I prefer 13 on 13 especially when some sendoffs are minor. Take Billy Burns he got a good wack drew blood HIA but passed came back on we were lucky but Duges only got 10 in the bin. Confused for sure

News limited, didn't like all the send offs last week..... So this week the referees.
& the bunker..... Don't send off, blatant head high tackles....
Murdoch's trying to ruin our game... He's already said he thinks
AFL, is the number one game in Australia. The orchestration of the game, by the referee's & the bucket, is killing our game.

And what did this so-called great independent commission do?
We already know the NRL are compromised and are puppets to larger masters

I can't watch the game when one player is down because of a head high which is no more than a flea bite. In fact that's the problem who determines the difference between a flea bite or a snake bite. One player no HIA stays on the field and offending player sentoff eg Vaughn. Another player HIA goes off doesn't return and offending player penalised only.

The high shot on Cody Ramsey was deliberate. If we got a quick play-the-ball, we most likely score. I'll even go as far to say it was an old-fashioned haymaker designed to put Ramsey out of the game.

The 'tackler', Marwene Hiroti looked like a man going to the gallows when the ref called him over. When he got only 10 minutes in the bin, he actually looked relieved and cracked a smile.

Ramsey on the other hand was concussed and took no further part in the match.

Even without the current crackdown, Hiroti might have been sent off. How he was allowed back on the field last night beggars belief.

It'll be interesting to see how the judiciary handle this. In the last two matches we've lost our best two attacking backs to illegal tackles.

The "Commission "
Did SFA, and now they have, Beatie on the commission, after he got DeBelin,
On a trumped up charge. Then he resigned, and run and hid. Popping up again on the Commission....
In a cushy job....
What a laughing stock
the NRL is...

Inconsistancy is whats going to drive this into the ground.
I think a few comments laid on last week after Magic Round re: would this 'hit' be a senf off in SOO or GF, caused a little stir in NRL HQ. That cant happen right? Otherwise the 'spectacle' would be ruined and Origin reduced to a KOE Cup standard event, which harfly anyone attends.

What was a send off last week is now just 10 mins in the bin. It doesn't matter if the 'hit' player fails their HIA you can still activate your 18th man (no doubt soon enough we will have 19th man). Send offs are for?

As for Hiroti's shot on Ramsey, he should never have been able to make the ultimately winning break. He should have been on the sideline in his tracksuit. About as deliberate head high shot that you could get, particularly he had the whole of Ramsey's body to aim for.

Magic Round - send offs (main aim)
Round 11 - sin bins (main aim)
Round 12 - ??

One final point, is this comment from the Ref's of 'with force'. Seriously when is a tackle 'without force'? I cant remember playing the game giving love hugs to the opposition player.
