New rule

I wouldn't be surprise if, given all of the uproar about last nights games, things drop back to normal over the next couple of days. The shit part of that is that the teams that played part in last nights games are somewhat disadvantaged because they've taken part in "an experiment".

And even if it doesn't go back to normal, as others have correctly pointed out, the crack down will not apply to every team.

Unfortunately for me, the game has gone to shit. The 6 again rule was the start of it and it's just degraded at a rapid pace from there.

You can put this down to the Roosters having a big whinge last week . Both Robinson and Tedesco coming out and saying that the refs must come down hard on foul play .

He may had copped a fine for his spray , but guess what the refs are now clamping down . The big question is will this also apply to the competition heavyweights , or once again will the clampdown only apply to the strugglers as is normally the case .

Yep with the 6 again teams will be letting oppositions roll up field because they will get pinged for something ..... so it will be easier and you can set your defense better defending on your line ....

If the idea was to improve the game, making it safer, faster and more exciting, the main changes that should have been made are as follows:

1. Have the attacking side stand 1m back from the play-the-ball.
2. Have only one marker.
3. Have 10 reserve grade players on the bench so that when a players comes off he stays off; except for sin bin or sent off players.
4. Use the 5 min sin bin rule for mild or accidental infringements.

I think you'll find the implementation of these rules will deliver the goods.

I Think the Bunker has been a Big part of the problem....get rid of it......

So how long before clubs do not have any players available for selection?

Firstly, with the increased speed of the game we have had a significant uptick in injuries, particularly leg injuries.

Secondly, if the crackdown on head touches and knocks continues I expect that we wi have many players suspended. I can't understand how Titans player got 2 weeks when the attacker side-stepped him. Was it a penalty? Yes but nothing more. It was not a stiff arm or swinging, rather a grab that cuffed the attacker.

I don't know who sits on the Match Review Committee (MRC), however I am sure that potential future financial obligations as a result of lawsuits has been drummed into the heads.

If you look at the NRL structure, we have Commissioners; the NRL Executive and Board; and the various operational groups some with actual football experience. To me, we now have too many people that are not RL people and many that have other interest/specialties that do not require positions on our boards etc.

We are getting like the Rugby, they have so many executive and management positions that if the trend continues they will end up with a 1 too 1 ratio against actual players.

I was thinking the same thing Gareth but would be nice if the Roosters cop it as well.

We’ll have-half our squad out as we continuously give away those 6 again penalties-
NRL can’t make mid season rule changes and I’m guessing refs are over policing this as well - shenanigans deluxe !!!

Agree Flamethrower , too many changes throughout the season . The players are lost and the referees merely throw the dice when deciding when to issue a penalty .

They seem to be placing band-aids over deep cuts that really require stitching , as said by many - leave the rules of the game alone , have a review at season’s end and for everybody’s sake fix the problem once and for all .

And , as getsmarty has said - get rid of that stinking bunker .

Perhaps if the NRL went back to its roots and listen to the fans , instead of the tele. executives , then and only then , will they finally get their house in order .

After all , it is the fans who are paying our hard earned dollars to have our posteriors sitting on those luvly plastic seats .

Why don't we try not to give the 6 again? I'm constantly yelling at my TV for Blake Lawrie to get off the player. Looks like he does it on purpose.

The NRL brought in HIA. To fix this issue, if a player goes for HIA then the person that made contact is sin binned. Simple. The team with the HIA get the benefit of a replacement. The offending team get 1 player less on the field. Simple. If a player gets hit like last night and they get up then it is obvious it is nothing serious.

I know you will get teams that will milk it and stay down to get to the guy sin binned but that team will also lose that player for 10 mins. If it becomes a tactic, you will notice this as it will become obvious if you look at patterns to see how often a team does it. That team will have x number of HIA's and the similar number of cases where the player was fine afterwards. If so they can then penalise the side by docking them points.

If the NRL was docking points to teams that introduce foul play all those years ago it may have avoided it getting worse. Instead they did nothing and forced other teams to follow suit. Sad how the NRL is worried coaches will find ways to bend the rules. If they have such a coach, then shouldn't he be banned from the game? It's obvious they know who the coaches are that may do this.

I hate all the new rules and the bunker shit!
Our game, the people’s game was “Simply the Best” in the early 90’s as Tina Turner & the advertising campaign would tell us.
Then Super League & media wars over the broadcasting started the changes south.

Every bloody new rule change seems to be thrown in Willy nilly to appease the TV viewers and have no resemblance to the game more people once loved.
IMO In order to go forward, we need to go back and simplify our game.

It was obvious last night that the bunker was actually reffing the game, especially the 2nd game. The amount of times that Sutton took instructions off the bunker & even going back a few rucks to rule on something was embarrassing.
Yep. The ref walking around talking to himself going “ yep yep ok over here? Nothing else?”
Fking hell the ref isn’t even in charge anymore.
