New rule

I hate all the new rules and the bunker shit!
Our game, the people’s game was “Simply the Best” in the early 90’s as Tina Turner & the advertising campaign would tell us.
Then Super League & media wars over the broadcasting started the changes south.

Every bloody new rule change seems to be thrown in Willy nilly to appease the TV viewers and have no resemblance to the game more people once loved.
IMO In order to go forward, we need to go back and simplify our game.

Yep , we had a great game back then - the 90’s , plus that ever so saxy Tina Turner .
Good lawd what has happened to it ?

A string of CEO’s who really have no idea of what brings fans to the game, why they ( use to ) enjoy it so much . Some of those bigwigs had no grounding in rugby league whatsoever , people with their backgrounds from other sports.

As they say - if you want meat you go to a butcher , not a candle stick maker .

The Rorters have just had one of their players sent to the bin for 10 minutes and Robinson does not look one bit pleased about it .

May the footy gods protect the judiciary from the wrath of Foghorn who will be squawking his head off again this week . :flushed:

Like many on this forum, I have witnessed the evolution of the game from unlimited tackles, to four, then six tackles, the demise of the scrum, the refinement of the kicking game and in recent times, changes to tackling rules (to name a few).

I appreciate that the changes are mostly designed to broaden the appeal of the game, especially with women (I think I can still say that) and to protect the welfare of the players.

Whilst some changes, have been difficult to accept, I believe it is necessary to eradicate impact to the head and neck area as much as possible, if rugby league is remain a dominant sport.

Perhaps the NRL could have introduced the new rules during the trials, to give the clubs the opportunity to educate players on acceptable tackling styles. However, the game and fans will come to terms with the changes and I feel they are in the long term interest of the game.

Knowing our luck, we will probably end up with 3-4 men going to the sin bin tomorrow. I hope not, but the way the games are going at the moment, there have been lots ending in the bin.

Keep your tackles low fellas but be effective just as you have learned during your training drills - i hope.

I can live with that, if the Storm have 5 - 6 men going to the bin and two send offs !!

How many times has Tedesco been hit high? Its because he drops down before he is tackled causing the player tackling him to hit him high. Surely the refs could see this. If you don't mind having your head hit, it is a good way of getting a penalty and having the guy who hit you go to the bin.

Just not sure are these changes happening at grass root level ?

The Roosters have got the game won. I've seen enough. The top teams keep winning and it becomes boring after a while. Gee the match review committee will be busy on Monday that is for sure, holey moley!!

It’s his running style, he runs around in circles, dips, slips, and most of the time as at a 45 deg. angle....
So if you supposedly cop a hit to the head, you then must do a mandatory HIA? Instead, Teddy, jogged off, walked around for 20 seconds and went back on....what a joke this is...

I’m not so sure about the new high tackle ‘crackdown’.

I say this after looking at a few highlights tonight. There seemed to be some very soft sin bins with fellows reaching over the body of a ball player who has backed into them etc. Hardly any contact with the head and arm sort of draped down against neck to stop off load. Others just slipped up a bit to brush the neck area etc.

Now it may turn into another game lottery like ‘6 again’. With 6 again now we see some refs hitting it hard, some just one or two a half, others seem to heavily 6 again penalise one team whilst the other team is a saint. Fans look at the seeming inconsistencies applied during the game and well give up trying to understand.

Now we will have teams and coaches complaining they were binned twice as much to that of the opponents etc, or highlighting seeming head inconsistencies. Many high tackles 50/50 bin or not to bin that is the question. Fans really enjoy ( not) watching 11 play 12, or 11 play 13, 12 play 13 maybe a myriad of other mathematical possibilities and so welcome to the new world. In fairness to refs they probably think if I don’t bin a few I’ll be eating a meat pie watching the game at home next week.

All this because Robo got upset about a couple of Easts chaps copping some careless high shots, Wasn’t it the same Robo, few years back complaining when that big Easts front rower got penalised or binned when he whacked Euan Aiken in an SCG game?

Possibly the ‘head high’ crack down may go the way of the ‘hip drop’. Fui got suspended for a pretty innocuous tackle of a big bopper from the Eels last year as the 1st and last ( I think) hip dropper and maybe only suspension. Well it seems that a number of hip drop type tackles now happen every game. What about the ‘ref touch’ crackdown ( I think Friz only suspension which much fanfare) which immediately became extinct when it was apparent that incidental ref touches were common and some elite players involved. Even refs accidentally touching players, dear oh dear.

Maybe I’m just a bit over the top?

We've been here before. Crackdown on high shots come and go.

Remember Andrew Walker on debut for us in 1992. High tackle, sent off, 4 weeks. He was just a kid at the time. The judiciary made an example of him so they could be seen to be doing their job.

Is this current stuff any different?
