Ok I have a side. This is a mix of the good (as in what I'd like) and the bad as in what we will see especially in the backrow.

1. Lachlan Coote
2. Josh Mansour
3. Michael Jennings
4. Josh Dugan
5. Blake Ferguson
6. James Maloney
7. Aidan Sezer
8. Paul Gallen
9. Robbie Farah
10. James Tamou
11. Boyd Cordner
12. Greg Bird
13. Joshua Jackson

14. Andrew Fifita
15. David Klemmer
16. Bryce Cartwright
17. Tyrone Peachey

18th man Jack DeBelin

I like this side. Not a big fan of Cordner or Jackson.
Maybe Finucane in and DeBelin, Frizell and possibly Campbell-Gillard into the side.

Oh and Peats over Farrah

Joey Leilua targets NSW State of Origin berth as Blake Austin breaks injury shackles

Date May 9, 2016 - 7:13PM

City upset Country

City have upset their more favoured Country opponents in an eight tries to five victory.

Canberra Raiders centre Joey Leilua will use the next two games to push his case for a State of Origin berth, and teammate Blake Austin has backed his bid to secure a NSW Blues jersey.
The Raiders play the St George Illawarra Dragons at Jubilee Oval on Thursday night and will be hoping to strengthen their grip on a top-eight spot.
But the race for Origin selection is heating up and there's just two weeks left for a host of Raiders – including Austin and Leilua – to impress NSW coach Laurie Daley.

Leilua is focused on continuing his flourishing bromance and partnership with winger Jordan Rapana while Austin has overcome a hamstring problem after an injury-riddled start to the year.
Leilua revealed his Blues goal on Monday, and is hopeful of gaining selection despite being ruled out of Samoa's Test with a leg injury and missing the City-Country clash which doubles as a NSW selection trial.
"That was one of my goals this year, to try to get a Blues jersey," Leilua said.
"I've just got to play consistent and stay in this form and hopefully I get picked to get that jersey.
"It is [still on the radar], that's my goal. But I've got to keep playing the way I am to hopefully get picked.
"It's all about the [Raiders] for me. I don't care what happens individually, it's all about the team first and then whatever my goals are come after."
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart will announce his side on Tuesday as Canberra prepares for its first Thursday night game of the season.
The club's representative players – Aidan Sezer, Paul Vaughan, Shannon Boyd, Jarrod Croker and Jack Wighton – are expected to back-up after playing at the weekend.
Sezer pressed his claims for a Blues call-up with an impressive display for City and his Canberra halves partner Austin will use two NRL matches to launch a last-minute campaign for Daley.
Leilua is banging down the NSW door after a superb start to the season and is in the best form of his career.
His form has been helped by what is becoming one of the most dangerous centre-wing combinations in the competition as he teams up with Rapana.
Leilua has made the second most offloads of any player this season with 25 and it's no coincidence the flow-on effect is Rapana's eight tries.
They're joined at the hip on and off the field, but Leilua said their bromance hasn't quite reached 'Dorguson' - Blake Ferguson and Sandor Earl - levels just yet.
"I don't think we have a name but hopefully my one's first," Leilua laughed.
Austin said: "Without a doubt [Leilua should be on the NSW radar], you've only got to see what Joey has been able to do in the first part of the season.
"His winger outside him has done a pretty good job too ... everyone for our team, if you're eligible for Origin, it's definitely something that's on your radar.
"Obviously it's a little bit closer for some than others, all you can do is go out and perform well for the Raiders. That's what Jordy and BJ have been doing regularly this year."
Austin starred in the City-Country fixture last year, scoring three tries and saving two to put himself in Blues contention.
But his NSW hopes this year have been hit by a knee injury and hamstring problem that have limited him to four of the Green Machine's nine games.
The silver lining in the 25-year-old not playing in the City-Country contest was it gave him extra time to recuperate and he's feeling refreshed.
"When you're performing well for your club, things take care of itself anyway," Austin said.
"For me it's about staying on the paddock at the moment and really performing well for the Raiders. I haven't been on the field as much as I would have liked this year."

Form means shit. Experience at losing Origin matches means more than form. Bj is no chance based on that.

Gallen and Bird too. have to go. no point moving onto new blood if the stench of failure of the last 10 years is still lingering around the joint.

take a leaf out of Ange postacoglou's formula.

also, be wary not to get sucked in by guys like coote who kill it with granville, thurston and morgan inside him. will be a different environment within the NSW squad with clearly 3 inferior players to those likely to be selected in the blues spine.

The question mark about Coote is his kick returns. But that is where guys like Ferguson, Dugan and Mansour would help out.

I was won over on Coote due to his defense, positionally he is the best fullback in the game.

But the question is where are NSW weakest. I say halves. If so then pick a fullback that can help them most. Answer is Coote. If we had gun halves then we could pick Dugan but we don't. Farah, Sezer, Maloney and Coote. All great kicking games.

Agree. I think Mansour needs to be there if we go with a play making half. Moylan doesn't take kick returns if he doesn't have to because you have a guy there who will do it really well all day long. Would keep them fresh to play their game as well.

Said this to a mate not long ago. Just get the broom. No time to be the nice guy, it has to be done

Just think folks. All of these 'Origin Hack hyped as Hero' types like Gallen and Pearce when they retire, due to their extensive Origin experience, will take their place among those who coach or officially assist in the NSW Blues Origin camps.

Expect to see their gleeful faces around Origin time, for decades to come.

Can you imagine when Pearce pulls one of the debutants aside for a chat, and the young wide eyed player looks down at Pearce and says "what does it take to win an origin series?"

Pearce looks thoughtful for a moment, rubs his stupid goatee, and says "ahhhh... I dunno mate. You might have to ask hokko..."

Cartwright will be picked, and his poor defense will be exposed.

Don't rush him in, let him work out the kinks in his game.

He will be an origin player, but it shouldn't be this year.

While I understand your point of view and I mostly agree I can't help wondering if this is the mentality that has got us into the situation we are in now.

Playing a "safe" side has given us a decade of grief. Maybe it's time to throw in some rookies and get some spark in the team. I don't know if I actually believe that. But it's shitty knowing that the same bunch of losers will be picked again.

Yes. That's what I was saying.

The only people who make great coaches are immortals.

In no way did I mean that Pearce has no f**king idea how to win an origin series, as he has never won one.

I'm so glad I wasn't misunderstood.

Coote is a gun. Looked a gun with bums like Walsh, Burns and Kingston. What utter nonsense

not nonsense. he's a f**kin hell of a player. great positional player. i feel he's undersized though. will get smashed in a hard-hitting beat down that is origin. that's just my feeling.

you need complete players at this level. cartwright's defensive game is miles behind his offensive game. sure, the gulf widens because he is one of the better attacking forwards in the comp, but his defence is clearly middle of the road amongst others in the League. a clear weakness. he's not ready until he improves his defence.

mansour should be there, full stop. he's been consistently one of the better wingers in the League over the last few seasons, even with some injury issues in some of those. and he is a winger.
