New Team v Melbourne???

Don't think we can promote Ben Smith or anyone else due to the salary cap rule that the contracts of anyone from outside your top 25 playing first grade must not tally up to more than $300K. We have already used 34/5 players in firsts this year, I don't think we can use anymore.

Melbourne's strengths seem to be in their halfs and Slater. We can match their pack (if the guys muscle up this week). If I was Smith I'd pick:

1. McKinnon
2. Graham
3. Burt
4. Langi
5. Petersen
6. Morris
7. Witt
8. Pearson
9. Webster
10. Vella
11. Hindmarsh
12. Afamasaga
13. Wagon
14. Widders
15. Stapleton
16. Peek
17. Grothe? (if fit)... Gees we're short some centres at the moment!
18. Hopkins

That's assuming Dykes and everyone else is still out, and Throman and Tsoulos deserve some game time somewhere again.

We will do well do even get close to Melbourne this week.

They have 3....count them........3 game breakers. Orford, Hill and Slater.

Our game breakers aren't arriving until next year.

If we don't get beaten by more than 20, I'll be surprised.

Bartman,

if what you said about that promoting players thing is true, as it may well be as i think St. George and even the Roosters are in the same pickle.....i will cry because it means, barring any possible returns from injury, (1) we are stuck with the same crap side and (2) no wonder some players are playing so shit, because they are not scared to lose their place

however, can't agree with you that you could put Hopkins effectively out of the squad, would be surprised if Hopkins didn't get the players player award last week, about the only forward apart from the onligatory that played well and ran strongly and was then asked to play hooker and did so effectively???????

who ever is picked,

i just hope some of these injured guys come back and that the team gets changed up a bit, because the team is a bit stale at the moment (even considering the miracle against the Poosters) and it needs to be revamped.....before next year!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, like everyone else, he plays a handful of good games per year.

I maintain that, if all our poayers played their best week in week out, as dp Chooks, Dogs, etc, we'd be top 4

No matter how you look at it, it always comes back to the coach!

Good points True, and please don't cry. (The same reason may be why Mateo was named 18th man twice without taking his place in firsts?).

Yeah, fair enough True. It was more my desire to get something extra in the backline, and play with a big starting pack than a reflection on Hopkins efforts in a losing side. Grothe's not fit anyway, so Hopkins would come back into my 17 for this match.

fair enough bartman, i just like Hopkins cause he always puts in and he is shattered when things don't go well....

he loves the place and is actually upset if he doesn't play well or if they lose....he values the fact that he is playing first grade in the best Rugby League competition in the world.....maybe some of the others need to think this way
