In my infancy on this forum, I’ve noticed many threads are like this.
I've been here 16 years and nothing's changed.
It's like being at a pub talking to a bunch of drunks.

I am amazed at how much activity there still is on these forums, I would have thought twitter, FB and Insta would have killed off forums a decade ago.

I don't think there is anyone under 30 using this forum lol... I would say NRL reddit and various facebook groups are much bigger than this site.
Apparently I've been here since 2007... yikes.

What, there are forums with active 20 year olds I can engage with and tell them how freaking stupid they are? Send me a link now!

NRL clubs are projected to have salary caps of 20m in 2027, the top players will be getting 2.5/3m aud per year.
What do the All Blacks get per season ?

Except with a Salary Cap of 20 Mil Everybody in a squad will want a big pay rise and the RLPA will ensure they do. There may be one or two players who are on over 2 mil a season but that's it. As for the top All Blacks they are already on that now with the endorsement deals they get.
And lets face it, there isn't an NRL club that is going to offer an All Black 2 mill plus a season to play a sport they have never played before. And given the average playing span in the NRL is four years, with nowhere to play after that why would they? An All Black gets paid very well while in NZ. Can have the option of playing a year somewhere else for massive money while still being paid by NZR. And when he no longer gets selected for the All Blacks can "retire" to five or six years, on even more money ,in a much easier comp in several different countries around the world.

And of course there is the LU standard response being used regarding the current Rugby Australia stupidity, any NZ League playing kid then will see the best way to earn mega bucks in the NRL is to play Rugby and become an All Black.

I agree that the All blacks probably won't change much. Matua summed it up pretty good.
And it doesn't really matter to the NRL where the All blacks are in 20 or 30 years, they'll always be the All blacks , draw a crowd and rate well. There's simply too much history there and it's always going to be relevant.

What is of concern is Professional Rugby as it directly competes with league. Right now Super Rugby is run at much the same time as the NRL, so it competes directly for attention of TV ratings and revenue and crowd attendance and revenue.

Now if Super rugby keeps on it's trajectory and the NRL keeps on it's trajectory . The NRL will be the only relevant professional Rugby comp in the Pacific. So just think if there's no Super Rugby now... Kiwis are watching the NRL. They become league fans.
They'll still watch the 13 odd All blacks games a year but they'll have 9 quality games of league to watch every week. Hopefully 2 of those will feature local teams!
The All blacks aren't a threat to the NRL in the slightest ( unless the All blacks want to play 9 games a week for 26 weeks 🤪🤣)
I might even watch the All Blacks 🤷‍♂️ won't make a dent.
Just to put it in perspective, I can't stand soccer but I'll still watch the socceroo's - I'm watching my identity as an Australian.
All blacks- who cares, have your All blacks.

All blacks- who cares, have your All blacks.

Except your making assumptions about the trajectory of both comps in NZ. You're also assuming any changes that are made wont have an effect.
HIstory has shown that the NRL has almost no ratings value in NZ outside the Warriors. It averages around 50K a game. The Warriors non finals games ratings averaged around 150K and have ranged from between 100 to 250K. 100K when up against a Rugby Game and up to 250K when they aren't. The TV ratings thread shows ample evidence of that.
While there is zero chance that there wont be Super Rugby or an equivalent comp that, shows that some Rugby fans who are paying for SKY will watch the Warriors if there is nothing else on. How many of those Rugby Fans will continue to keep sky only for the NRL. It's a MASSIVE assumption to assume a lot will.

And the biggest reason your assumptions fail is that Super Rugby has a TV audience on the rise in NZ. And history has shown that NZ Rugby public will watch it, even when there are teams from Australia dragging it down.
And Revenue? Really? The NZR annual report showed just how little Super Rugby effects revenue. So there will always be a "Professional Rugby" comp to watch making your entire post moot.

But I can see why you are bringing all this up now that NZ2 is a dead duck. You need to cling to something.

I'd like to congratulate you on your first informative contribution to this thread, a measured sensible response which actually makes sense and with out any primary school insults.
See you can do it ;)

On the off chance that hitting you over the head with facts enough times makes you want to actually take it in, here goes.

I posted an article for viewership for sports in NZ about 100k posts ago. The NRL has less total viewers than the NPC. The NPC only runs for 3 months at most.

If Super ended, as I noted, NZR would create an extended to NPC to fill the gap. Do you honestly think the NRL will magically have more viewers against a full season NPC when they don't against a 3 month NPC?

TBH, I think an extended NPC would have the opposite effect on what you believe would happen to NZ rugby. It would likely get better crowds than Super Rugby and better viewership.

Even Bart SImpson watches the NPC
