A 32 year old player getting a retirement payout? Really? That's the best you have got?

If anything, it shows you can stay and play in NZ until you are past it, then go for a payday overseas... and you think this is a bad thing?
A noted " star " less for Sup- par Rugby next year certainly is a bad thing.
Rugby league players are good to mid 30's, so a Rugby player can nudge 40.

Going to a Superior Rugby comp is retirement? 🤣

A star? a backup half back?? He is already been replaced by a 22 year old who is pushing for All Black selection all ready.

Getting the Queensland Reds and NSW Waratahs into the Japanese competition might be possible. They might have to rebrand as the Brisbane Reds and Sydney Waratahs. If it opens up pathways for Japanese companies to further their business interests in Australia and improve the standard of Japanese rugby then it's a win for them.

For the ARU it allows them to keep the best players in Australia. The way things stand they're going to lose players to Europe and Japan. Might as well field teams in the Japanese competition so the Australian public can see the country's best players.

Gotta love how the circle jerk pivot... PNG announced as the prefered next team, putting to end to any speculation about the small chance of NZ2.. So they resort to what the thread was really about all along which is nothing to do with League in NZ.

Ahhh "domestic"... you twats always fall back to that. Too bad the international scene is one that League cannot even aspire to.

And as for "bailed out" the 40% increase in revenue indicates the investment was a good one. But don't let the truth get in the way of a good rant.

And its a shame for you, believing NZ Rugby is "vulnerable" and knowing NZ2 is dead.

hahaha
League is doin fine without being particularly international , altho our international program is better now then it has been for a while with hardly any effort or interest from Australia

Both of Australias biggest domestic sports are doin fine thanks , both raking in $$$ , & are way ahead of sports with an international presence , Yawnion , Sooker , Cricket , Basketball , the cry you... have .. to be big internationally to survive is being proven as a myth & the BS it is.

what you need is strong pathways to get to that fine point of the national team , very limited opportunities at the very top so you want a good earn on the way , if clubs are going belly up left right & centre , if your head body is having to get bailed out by private equity companies
young men will look elsewhere for a career , to sports that are actually well run

Ahh Australia, the other fallback you twats go to. Too bad the thread isn't about Australia, It's about NZ, where the biggest domestic Leagues are also doing fine. Rugby, Soccer, Cricket, Netball, Basketball.. guess which sport is no longer anywhere near the "biggest" half dozen sports "domestically" in NZ. Guess which sport is struggling domestically the most. I'll give you a hint, This website is dedicated to it.

NZ2 only hope is the NRL is serious about going to 20 clubs by 2032. And that ARLC has finally woken up to supporting the game in NZ. Beyond that there wont be a NZ2 club, certainly not for club 18.

Why would they? They have made promises before and broken them each and every time.
