New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

The history of the game would suggest I’m correct and the reality is very far from your theoretical assumptions.

It's best to ignore @MugaB. He's an angry simpleton with some really insane views. The fact he thinks the NRL can have an infinite amount of teams proves he doesn't have a clue.

Where does he think the ARLC would get the money that's needed to cover the annual grant for an "infinite" amount of teams?

Players aren't going to play for peanuts.

I think the limit is about 20 teams. There's just not enough money from the broadcast deals and sponsors to support more than 20 without lowering the annual grant. The clubs and RLPA will never agree to less money.

Again simpleton, there is No limit... making up these type of numbers to suit your narrative of having to only be able to fit perth, nz2 and seq3, instead of another 4 teams ontop of that if they so choose to, there is no timeframe either, so your rush to say 20 teams, it is incorrect too... we don't know, but one thing i do know, is that the licenses cost the competition nothing, so there's nothing to lose by adding more clubs, and nothing to gain by dumping clubs... continue your dribbling about 20 club comp but realise your failure in calculation

of course every license comes with a cost. The cost is the nrl grant plus extra admin fees as more games are played. Now unless the nrls revenue is going to go up by the cost of the license then that itself is a limiting factor.
Basically license numbers are tied to tv revenue. If tv wants more content we’ll see more licenses, if they don’t we won’t. At some point you’d have to think tv won’t want to pay more money for more more content?
Then the age old player depth argument. That’s virtually unmeasurable as a quantitative factor so comes down to perception.

Exactly, but its only your perception limiting the amount, gradually over 5-10 years 1-2 clubs could be added, by 2050 the comp could stretch to 22-24 clubs, every new club growing the player pool with it.. tv or media corps paying for the content, pays for the grant, but the license to exist in the comp costs zero

We are both playing hypotheticals that only time will be able to prove.
Like I said in theory yes there is no limit to number of future nrl clubs, in reality is it’s taken 100 years plus to get to a stable 17 team comp. The nrl has historically been incredibly poor at long term planning and investing in future markets.

we know exisiting clubs look for a 15-20% grant rise every new tv deal, then add in the new grant new club costs and you’re looking at needing significantly large tv upgrades every 5 years to pay for extra expansion And feed the growing number of existing clubs

I think we’ll get to 20 in my lifetime, I hope so at Least. Beyond that only time can tell.

IIRC his father played for the Kiwis on tour but no tests. Then he failed as a father and cost us the cricket world cup.
Ged stokes was coach of both west Cumbrian semi-professional outfits Workington town and Whitehaven warriors.

I believe he also played a season for Workington town in the early 80’s.

They gonna do it for free? Auckland City isn't going to pay for it... they are hundreds of millions in the hole from the cyclone.
You think they won't see the value in 10K aussies flying in for the game
& what they'll spend ?

read it as read... they'll pay for it & pay plenty too
