It’ll happen if the NRL and promoters like Lonergan finance it. It won’t if they wait for Auckland council to because Te Kaha is right about the reasons that they won’t.
Nah nrl keep the gate and sponsorship

the host has to pay for the tourism benefits

“Historically, Origin is one of the highest-rating shows in New Zealand.

“The second consideration is money. The New Zealand government I’m sure would be open to supporting an Origin game.

The Two quotes that how far Lonergan is out of touch with NZ... Origin hasn't rated well in years, although i spose "historically" as in years ago it did, and the NZ government wont be putting any money toward it for many years yet.

And using a promoter for a quote??? yikes...

Lonergan is a promoter. It’s his job to pump stuff up and he’s bloody good at it but it also means you have to take what he says with a grain of salt.

And he is always good for a quote i spose.
Yah, goes with the territory that he’s always going to be keen to provide one. He was good at that game even back in his playing days as “Cowboy” Lonergan spinning tales of being a professional pig hunter.

Govts generate more tax revenue too

ten million spends leads to 30 million direct benefit and probably 100 million total

it’s why govts pay for it
All true in theory but hard to prove to ratepayers in the current environment, especially with a council elected on a mandate to cut spending.

based on what? an additional "10K Aussie tourists" wont generate enough to pay for that kind of outlay. Neither central or local government will fund it.

Yeah telling the truth was always secondary to a good tale, he has carried that on into the business world. Although what he did at Duco events left a sour taste in the mouths of everybody involved.

yea,
chamber of commerce or equivalents push govts & councils to stump up for these events as they generate significant income for businesses ..
Tourism NZ would know that thousands of aussies who've prob never been to NZ , might become life long travellers & Origin being their first trip & the catalyst for future trips.

They'll pay

its chump change for a 1st world country
are we saying the NZ govt is as broke , skint .. penniless as NZ yawnion ??...
The rent for the ground plus sponsorship would be worth a bit of coin too

it seems like it’s one million plus for rent plus the extra revenue the ground makes from signage

only shame is eden parks capacity is a bit small

If someone in NZ wants to pay $10mill for origin thats great. The fact no one has yet despite the opportunity being there for quite a few years now seems like the only way it wil happen is if NRL wavers its hosting fee. At some point the 3 other cities arent goign to want origin again so soon so I suppose NRl needs to look at where next?
