As with the Lions and Swans, you can that their crowds rely heavily on Victorian expats as they swell greatly when the big Melbourne sides play there (the drop off is dramatic when not relying on those big expat supporter bases). For the locals, it's RL all the way.
You can't prove that, and it's certainly not my experience in at least the Swans case.

Aussie Rules has a very healthy following in both Sydney and Brisbane, and you're deluded if you're trying to suggest otherwise. It's steadily growing in both as well.

Same's true of RL in Melbourne BTW, and those whom would suggest are also deluded.

You'd have to have an extremely loose definition of "dominant" to call the NRL/RL dominant in Canberra. That's coming from a person from Canberra.

I'm sure that RU would having something to say about RL being dominant in Auckland as well.
Auckland shouldn't really be in the discussion at all if the analysis is as reductive as AFL vs NRL as the AFL has neither a significant presence in the NZ market and has never seriously attempted to break into that market (not in living memory at least). The NRL being dominant over the AFL in Auckland is pretty irrelevant to the competition between the two in the Australian market (i.e. where it matters) in the grand scheme of things, and only those interested in infantile dick measuring would suggest otherwise.

I'm not in a position to pass judgement, but I think it's at best debatable to suggest that the AFL and NRL are on roughly equal footing on the GC. Something tells me that there'd be much more fanfare on the GC if the Titans were going well than if the Suns were winning 'flags', but IDK, I could be wrong.
GC is hard to judge. They've never had any sustained period of success in the NRL (or AFL). I think League will always be more entrenched and part of the culture than AFL no matter where you go in QLD though, simply due to State of Origin. Even their supposed "strong hold" Cairns isn't AFL dominant. League is probably still stronger their.

I have some very good evidence of that. Take a look at how the Swans, Lions, Giants and Suns crowds swell significantly higher when playing the big Melbourne clubs compared to other teams. Take a look at the Lions and Suns top crowd this year (which is the case most years v Collingwood), then take a look at how much lower the QLD derby crowd is between the Suns and Lions. It is heavily reliant on expats.

And no, considering the investment, the following is not that healthy if you are relying on people moving over the border. The TV ratings and average attendances have been stagnate for 25 - 30 years since the SL war bump.... which of course, you see as a coincidence ;) In the case of Brisbane, their TV ratings sometimes struggle to outnumber those at the Gabba.

Afl tv ratings in nsw and qld are down hugely from their peak

It’s why they get smashed in the ratings is nobody is watching in nsw and qld

their dots on a map strategy has failed for them

lol you are the one saying NZ getting 25-30k for NRL games is a big positive. But Brisbane and Sydney getting 25-60k AFL tv audiences is a disaster? Make your mind up!

A $643mil 7 year media deal would suggest 'dots on map' may be a good idea?

I never said that

i think the ratings are far higher

why are afl ratings falling and rugby league ratings rising ?

why does nrl rates this pants out of afl ?

dots on a map vs real clubs when it comes to expansion.

Apologies it was Iamback. So do you think NZ is waste of time for NRL given the ratings over there are lower than for AFl in Sydney and Brisbane? Is Auckland just a dot on the map for NRL? Is NZ2 akin to GWS?

This round across 3 games 181k watched AFL on FTA in Sydney and Brisbane. I'm sure they'd like more but its not a small number either. avg 60k
NRL avgd 20k across Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide for its two games on FTA this round.

Despite NZ drawing lower tv ratings than AFL in Sydney and Brisbane? Doesn't that make it a dot on the map by your estimation?

Australian population 26 million nz 4?
But ok sure

population of nsw is 2 times nz
does per pop matter to tv execs, or the amount of people tuning in? Not sure any sport judges it success on % of popualtion interested over total number interested does it?

Lets be honest you say AFL is failure in Sydney and Brisbane becasue of tv ratings, yet NZ gets less than half, but NZ is so successful you think it needs a second side?
Double standards or what? You could just say you dont like AFL every post instead lol

If Perth got a side:
10k to 15k at the ground.
15k watching at home.

NZ 15k to 20k at the ground
100k to 150k watching at home

A Perth team would generate about 1 10th of a NZ team.

Then there's the bucket loads of talent that NZ could unlock vs Perths 0

There's a massive derby match twice a year that would be the most watched game in NZ.

Perth is a dot on the map and that's all it has.
But guess what? Wellington is a dot too 🤔
And so is Christchurch...
Another team in NZ makes it a truly national sport in NZ 😍
