What happened in the game 30 years ago?!..oh, that's right, Super league. Lol

(Ppl on ignore are straight up abusive. There's no shying from debate. Perth red has diametrically opposable views but is mostly civil & therefore not on ignore..)

You are the only one focused on it mate. It’s ridiculous.

What about the bloke named after the failed Super league franchise from Perth?!

You seem inordinately focused on him (like a lot of posters).

He sprouts s*** sometimes and he is a little too positive about Perth but he is not just suggesting we can’t do something because of Super League

I was sympathetic towards Perth Red's cause until he selfishly shit on every other bid.

We'd all like to see the game expand into Perth, but not if it comes at the expense of more worthy candidates. The selective information he uses to make Perth look more worthy than it is doesn't do his cause any favours. He's just going to have to accept that not everything is about Perth and people from Queensland and NSW don't owe him anything.

World is tribal these days & things get split into two sides whether you like it or not. He's the leader of faction ur aligned with & wore a western reds jeresy to NRL games in 2023..

I think what makes you so sooky about this, is that you see so much of yourself in his posting.

Self interested, cherry picking of data and diverting into tangents when you are losing steam in a discussion.

It's pure projection.

Ignoring history means you will repeat the mistakes of the past

super league is still hugely important to rugby league today

1. why is afl more popular In nsw and qld today than the early 90/“s

2. why no second team in Brisbane until the recently

3. why was the nrl so afraid to expand

super league

That’s the problem right there. There are a lot of people who aren’t tribal or ideological and to be frank the world has always been splintered into ideological prisms based on religion or politics or whatever. It’s nothing new. I would also say that is the biggest problem with the world so why bring it on here?

I couldn’t give a s*** what he does or what you do in your private life/spare time. I have also disagreed with him as well as several other people on here. I don’t care about factions.

I agree about learning from history.

The biggest problem is being dictated by your history or not just moving on. You have to realise that the game is not in the same position as it was.

Sure but only now is the game in a better position than in 95

tbh a few posters on here giving me I’ve been jaded by super league vibes or they want the game to expand in ways john ribot advocated

and a big reason why there is no team in Perth is super league

I wouldn’t necessarily say that at all. I think the game has been in a good spot for a long while.
Also, I think the rosy coloured view of 95 is a little bit overdone. Have a look at the crowds back then? Have a look at the money the game was creating compared to now? It is on a much greater level now.

Agreed on the last point.

Not so sure it is just Super League. Since the NRL was formed

Northern Eagles failed
GC went broke
Newcastle licence was owned by NRL
WT was controlled by NRL
Warriors have changed owners a couple of times

Plenty of reasons to be cautious and expand the right way

Warriors didn’t need a National second tier conp

the new clubs pathways will be in Australia just like the wahs
They had the Lion Red cup set up in anticipation for the Warriors entry and was set up relatively similar to unions NPC. Sadly it wasn’t financially viable and the provincial teams struggled with the Auckland teams dominating, Bartercard cup was the second major attempt with more Auckland teams but again only the Canterbury Bulls challenged the Auckland teams and the gap in the provinces vs Auckland seemed to have grown larger. Had better pathways been capitalised on and the lion red cup retained it’s possible it could have been a local version (albeit likely behind QLD cup) to help develop and retain local players and have some level of national local interest

Agree, funny thing is that as much as it's too close but it's also too far to draw fans from either city. I was surprised how long and expensive the train was between the 2 cities.
There's no strategic advantage to Hamilton.
In terms of adopting a new NZ2 team I’d suspect most outside of Waikato would stick with the Warriors if it were based in Hamilton there wouldn’t really be much of a point of difference.
Else you’d get the ‘not Broncos’ syndrome you got in Brisbane support

I just feel a close derby would ignite the other areas like Wellington and south Island to want to bid, if they see a Auckland vs Waikato feud, i mean its pretty much exactly the Brisbane syndrome you pointed out

20 teams in 95

17 now

that’s the biggest difference

and afl was insignificant pre super league
