New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

I like how the Storm have shifted from recruiting Queenslanders now that the Dolphins are in, to focus more on recruiting Kiwis, good adapting from them. Hopefully as NZ2 take a bite out of their ability to sign Kiwis, the Victorian pipeline will be in full flow.
TBF, the Storm have always recruited Kiwis.

Is Leo that good a buy? He'll be 28 when he finally switches to the Storm.

I'm not totally sure the Storm think like that or focus on any particular area. I think they are 100% active and proactive on all front at all times! Never leave a stone unturned! I wouldn't be surprised if they're in negotiations with a lacrosse player in the Falkland Islands at this point.
The Storm are an incredible organisation! People wonder how they are this successful .. how many clubs are this thorough in their search for talent?
None.

You’d think converting an AFL player would be the best way to get some exposure in Melbourne, much different sport yes but you’d think there’d be enough transferable skills from a professional athlete

Still find it a fairly novelty sport but their defence considering the space they have to cover is pretty impressive and their fitness is insane
Yeah I haven't watched it in years. I probably couldn't name more than a couple of players in the team. I actually only know Leo from seeing him playing for Harbour on occasion in the NPC.

is NZ 2 still the favourite for team 20?

I have to say, I'm a bit worried that the NRL will take the "easy" option and just cave to Brisbane Easts or (hot off the heels of a Perth Bears decision) - double down on that appeal-to-nostalgia-meets-fresh-territory vibe with that Ipswich/Newtown hybrid.

Did I say a bit worried? I meant really freaking anxious.

It's likely a loooong time till we go to teams 21 and 22 - if ever, right?
That quote from Vlandy's in the 'NRL Looking at Buying a Jet' article looks pretty good for you. He just happened to rattle off Perth, PNG and the South Island of NZ as places the jet would potentially have to go to... Hmmm

The NRL would be definitely thinking to give the Phins a bit more time to bed in also.

Good point - and the sly bugger may just have let the cat out of the bag in an off-hand comment.... :)

If he follows the will warbrick path he’ll spend a season playing Queensland cup putting him at 29 years of age before he could realistically make his debut.

TBF recruiting from NZ is mostly a safe bet when it comes to league juniors and even Union schoolboys. The gamble is obviously the Union 7’s players but you’d expect these players to be on small wages development contracts so it’s not really that much of a gamble.

especially with easts being cashed up.

sadly I’d put NZ2 behind another Brisbane team as of today but things constantly change.

or PNG fail.

Do these players primarily play on a 7’s circuit or do they also play in the NPC cup?

They'll realistically have 10 years to fail, that's how long they have funded and how long it will take for people to get used to the idea of papuans playing the sport at the highest level, good on them, not sure why everyone assumes any club will "fail"
Not with grants being so high, and the fact we have clubs like Tigers, Titans lingering at the sour end of the ladder most years, and AFL doing the same with Suns and GWS (if they didn't manage them to be relevant) PNG won't fail, not in any metrics that would result in losing a licence, and not to a cashed up new bidder, it would be far easier to just hand out more licenses than to accept defeat, licences don't really cost the arlc anything but a slice of the broadcast pie

PVL says a lot of things to a lot of people at the right time. He’s a brilliant politician.

one would hope.
