The whole interview is very good- did find it telling the long pause after being asked if he regretted going to the Warriors. Also found it telling that he didn’t rate Stacy Jones that highly and implied he needs to be gone from the club.
At least a second nz side gives kiwi league fans a chance at a well managed side

We want league to do well and the reality is other than a few one off years the warriors have been a rabble for pretty much their entire existence

Sydney teams would struggle to get fans if they were like that (eg tigers)

Ridge spoke well about Webster who knows maybe he will get it done but for me Madge was the guy they should’ve got and it’s a huge blunder

And the Warriors this past year are the loudest voices saying NZ “are not ready” for a second team ..

its so dumb from them

Competition is good but nobody ever wants it. It'll force the Warriors to be better across the board to maintain their market share instead of simply inheriting an entire country as a default.
Another team in NZ will take the game to new heights there without question.

With chch getting a team the warriors can take that home game to another centre that doesn’t get any games like Hamilton which has a beautiful little stadium

Even this ground in taranaki isn’t too shabby

Curious. Do any of the expansionista's on this forum and in particular this thread actually live in NZ, mainly South Is NZ and can confirm the actual status of Rugby, Rugby League and all the other rhetoric many on here are arguing over?

Seems like (and pardon me if I'm wrong) that people arguing whichever which way aren't located anywhere near the proposed location of a new NZ club and their understanding of this might not be as sound as they believe it to be?

Keen to hear how this is playing out from locals. After all, they would be the main target audience.

The Warriors should be playing at least 1 game there every year imo. Hamilton should be solid Warriors territory.

You haven't noticed them use that as their only argument every second post?
They tell you Literally every second post...
And if I didn't spend 4 months travelling and talking to kiwis in actual NZ ( not anonymous posters on the internet) ...
I would believe what they told me.. that I should ignore all solid evidence across the board because Rugby league is a niche sport played in a small pocket in Auckland..

There a few that are well grounded and appear to be League fans but you need to know that the title of this thread awakens Union trolls like nothing else.

Gob/Final Say has alternatively been on holiday in Dunedin/Christchurch, gone to live there, but then decided not to live there, and was a teenager from Christchurch. I'm sure one of those version of him can give you all the details.

I see. So no one here actually lives in South Island and accurately understands the current sporting or business landscape? All the back and forth is based on opinions and assumptions?

It would be interesting to get a locals perspective.

I'm not sure if anyone who actually lives there has contributed to this thread, they might not want to join the shit fight. :)

There's one guy in the NZ section who I think is from Chch but he doesn't even support the Warriors.

But, going by the player stats that the Orcas are throwing around in their media releases the catchment will actually be the SI and a good chunk of the NI anyway so that will broaden the amount of locals to get perspective from.

Geez, you're doing a bit of a walk back from being an expert Kiwi.. on all things related to New Zealand..
I actually wonder if I have spent more time than you in the South island ( a 3 month block) 🤔

What are you on about, he specifically asked for then opinion of anyone who lives the area, I clearly don't, and I don't pretend I'm a teenager living there either. I'm still the expert on all things NZ though. ;)

I lived in Chch for a year. I hate the place.

If Christchurch gets a team, it will be the biggest thing to happen to the sporting landscape there ever. The salary cap is more than double what Super Rugby pays ,NRL is watched by 3x the amount of people and the season is twice as long.
Having New Zealand’s biggest professional Union team dwarfed by A brand new NRL franchise is a massive blow!
I base all my decisions of what sport I follow, on the size of its salary cap.

I've not made any claims on the state of the next tv deal. Just because your mate Gob is the multi king it doesn't mean everyone else is - IIRC Te Kaha was the guy discussing the Sky deal. I've said multiple times that Sky will always be supportive of the NRL because it saved the company in the early 90s.

And, compared with you I am the expert on the current state of juniors in NZ.

Yes exactly, if we can get the salary cap up to 18-20m then NRL will really be the unstoppable force.
Hard to say how long it'll take to reach that cob.

Most years it only jumps like $200k-$300k one season to the next. However some TV deal years it can jump as high as $2m one year to the next like 2017 to 2018 and 2022 to 2023.

On a normal milk run it'll take up to 10+ years to reach $20m but if there's jump years in there the overall length could take less time. Something like 8 or so years. What's your gut feel on it?
