New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Slightly off topic but gee it’s hard to get any meaningful data on participation in NZ. The websites of the comps are awful and almost unmanageable as far as working out team numbers. The Auckland comp is clearly the biggest with over 30 clubs but the website is a dogs breakfast. The Play Rugby League site used here in Australia is terrific. It captures nearly every comp and makes life a lot easier.
I know the cheer squad here loves little articles telling us league now threatens union over there but it’s not possible to do any meaningful analysis of real numbers of players or even find where all the comps are and who is playing in them.
Raises a serious question about the management of the game there. Which also raises questions about how the NZRL will handle two clubs playing out of NZ in the NRL.
To me, on the face of it, the game needs a massive overhaul over there to meet its potential or even be taken seriously below the professional level.
Am I right or talking shite as usual?
NZRL doesn't include figures in their annual reports, but the last reported numbers were mid 20k's. Rugby is about 140k.

Sporty.co.nz has most of the competition data listed by region but you sometimes need to hunt for it. Comps, teams, finals etc, but no player data.

The schools participation that the various articles have been going on about is genuinely attendance in a one off week long comp rather than teams in ongoing league's comps.

You're echoing stuff a bunch of us NZers have been saying since the thread's inception. :)

And to the best of my knowledge nobody has stepped up to fund a standalone Perth/WA team.
Cash converter cumins came in and got smacked down a few levels. whether bears was thrust onto him or not remains to be seen but nrl never publicly said anything. however I thinks the numbers just didn’t stack up, as in stand alone and the risk it poses

maybe they do but I’ve done big search and found nothing

How will the bears offset the risk?

So no idea. Me either
hard to find stand alone cities in nz but considering they live for rugby and contact sport they’d surely be higher than 8k that Perth produces and those numbers are available.

depends how much of the overall nz viewership is divided into what regions.

Thanks. You and others have consistently provided a healthy dose of reality to these threads. It is appreciated. The fake kiwi aka Gobsmacked and the lunatic feckwit WB have thrown so much crap at this thread it defies logic. Keep it up mate.
