Define Pacific. If it means every region the Pacific ocean touches soccer is by far the biggest sport.

I'd assume for the pendants, Mascord is referring to the Pacific Islands.

“Biggest sport in the Pacific” is probably right if you’re just counting Australia, Polynesia & Melanesia. I doubt they were thinking of Mexico or Phillipines when they made the statement.

Union is bigger in more countries but League is bigger in the biggest/wealthiest market by some way and has the 2nd most populated country. Union is ahead NZ and the rest pretty much but that probably wouldn’t even combine to the population of NSW.

You can def lay claim to the Warriors being the biggest sports club in the pacific.
The biggest sport? Hmm thats a stretch if you look at playing numbers, general interest, media covg and revenue generation in the pacfic.
I cant find stats on playing numbers for union v league in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga etc but I suspect Union has the bigger number?? We know it does by a long way in NZ.
Pretty simple equation:
How many viewers across the entire pacific?
Rugby league wins hands down but I wouldn’t need to tell a Rugby league fan that.

Pretty much by default whatever is biggest in Australia can be “biggest in the pacific/oceania” due to large majority of population.
Curious to see what it looks like if you exclude Australia what the numbers in the pacific look like.
Hell I’m sure even AFL can make similar claims despite having close to zero presence outside of Australia

Problem is we lose to Aussie Rules with claims like that.

Especially if attendance is included.

We really need to aim to increase that dramatically

No we actually don't. Ratings and attendance combined still surpassed AFL and that's on in Australia.
It would be good to increase crowds but different sports are enjoyable in different ways . The AFL gets bigger attendances than the NFL.. and it says it that the AFL is a sport best appreciated in person.

Exactly

Nrl has been setting crowd records anyway

And unlike afl which has games set up to maximise crowds we have many crowd unfriendly time slots to maximise ratings

It's always a frustrating argument. I'm glad the AFL get massive crowds at one particular stadium because that's literally all they'll ever have.. a niche.
We'll just have the settle for the odd 50k at Vegas, Wembley, Eden Park, Sydney, Brisbane, old Trafford ect opps almost forgot about the 90k in Melbourne lol

I was talking to an afl fan on twitter and he just couldn’t understand why nrl would add a team in nz

Good for rugby league they are so insular

is there a world where all 4 bids merge or even 2 of the bids merge and just call themselves "name" like orcas or kea? clearly located in south island but not necessarily having geographical identity in name or just alternatively having nz in their name like warriors do?

nz warriors - north
nz kea/orcas - south
